What size pointers for this size stone...

Hi all! I need some more expert advice I have pretty much decided on the setting I will be getting but I want to tweak it a little bit. I tend to like more delicate halos but the one they have pictured looks to "big" to me. What size pointers would you use for a 3.19 ct cushion (8.33 X 9.05)?

I'm not really sure what the difference is between the styles you mentioned. I just feel it's a little big for the center stone. I want the halo to be a little more delicate, an accent to the center stone. Not over powering it...does that make sense? I just know when I look at it, I feel like its a little off from being perfect for me I was hoping someone would have set, or has seen one similar to that size, in a halo and be able to give me an idea of a nice complimentary pointer size.

I just googled the difference and you are correct. I was thinking that this style might look a little better with my M colored AVC since there is a sort of "break" between the center stone and the melee.

When you mean "this style" you mean the legacy? And the break is the bezel (thin piece of metal that holds the center in place on your 1st picture between diamond and halo)? Just want to make sure I get this right.

Personally I really like the 1st setting you posted. The basket is to die for and give me my own ideas of resetting . I think your stone would look better with a legacy look with miligraining on both sides. But I really like that art deco/ antique vibe for a ring.


Things I would do:
-FInd out what melee size the jeweler is currently using.
-Find out the width of the halo
-Find out what the jeweler will do if you don't like the proportions. Will he remake the ring for you, etc.

Are the rings you pictures your inspiration? Or is one of them the actual setting?

This is just a "real" picture I found of it on Pinterest (EC version) There are tons of stock type photos of it online but the was the only "real life" one I found lol. I will have to have it custom made to fit the stone but I want to know exactly what I want changed before I go to order... I will have to ask about the melee size and the halo width. Whatever the width is I know I want it a little more narrow.

Oops I missed part of your reply. Yes I mean the legacy style setting and yes the break I was referring to was the bezel. I was going to ask them to add prongs and set it just a hair above the bezel. When you referred to the milgraining did you mean to milgrain the bezel?

Ok so I finally got to see this setting in person …well a 3ct version of it. I LOVE the profile view, its perfect in my opinion :love However, the top view of the halo needs some tweaking. It just seems a little bulky to me. I asked them what size pointers they were using and if tacori would be willing to make them smaller. She called and they said they use 1.9mm and even though they wouldn't really want to make them smaller, they would go down to a 1.5mm. I don't know a lot about this, but I don't think that would really make much of a difference. Would it?? I was thinking like 1mm max but it doesn't sound like they would be to happy with making them any smaller Also, i'm not really loving the bezel. I think i would rather have it set with 4 prongs, very low. I need help! Im not sure how to go about this. What do I do if they refuse to make these changes??

The basket is my favorite part! After seeing it in person I think I want to remove the bezel completely and just do a thin millgrain and then prong set it...does that make sense lol

Yes I totally agree! I'm torn because I'm in love with the profile but hate the halo

This is a tacori ring so I'm not sure if they will be willing to make all these changes for me...
