Got a friend who is looking for a .96 ct RB, and he wants to be sure he is getting the correct table size, diameter, angles and all of that. He has found several that he is interested and they are going to fax him the Certs on the diamonds this evening and he was asking me what they should be sense he thinks I know about diamonds. While I know a little and have searched on this site for the info he is requesting I haven''t been able to find it yet. Anyone offer me some help? Thanks.

I'm no expert in rounds, so you probably know all this stuff already, but I'd just give him the cut advisor here: https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp. He can plug in the #s easily.

If he's selecting without seeing with his own eyes then: above a 2 discard, below a 2 consider.

If he doesn't have the angles on the certificates, he can give a preliminary sorting through with this chart for rounds: http://www.gemappraisers.com/oldcutgraderules.asp to discard any table/depths that are waaay off. (But he should then request angles if he's purchasing without seeing, because table and depth is not enough information).

If he's not going to be selecting these diamonds w/ his eyes . I would strongly encourage him to get idealscope or ASET images before purchasing.

A .95 ct round should have the diameter of about 6.4mm, a full carat about 6.5. It is hard to say exactly what the ideal numbers are, but as a rough guide, many here seem to like them in this region. Bear in mind this is an extremely tight range and numbers which fall outside of them can look great too, especially with crown and pavillion angles, some shallower combinations and shallow steeper can be stunning. The cut advisor can be useful too to weed out contenders. Bear in mind it is a tool to rule out lesser performers and a diamond shouldn't be chosen purely on it's results. Some prefer a score below 2 as cherry, however some above 2 can be great performers and may be worthy of consideration. A particular PSer has a diamond which is a 2.8 and it is the most coveted diamond around. The numbers listed below are suitable for a tightly crafted superideal diamond which may or may not be what he is looking for, therefore a variance on those numbers can work well too, also for a more generic ideal cut with plenty of performance to spare, but perhaps doesn't have the tightest of numbers. Polish and symmetry - good and above look the same to the untrained eye, ex and above can be desirable to those who want the abovementioned Superideal as part of the overall package.

depth - 60- 62.6
table - 54 - 57
crown angle - 34.4 - 34.8
pavillion angle- 40.5 - 40.9
girdle - thin to medium and other variances

Thanks for the replies. By the way loreli, I love the cat.
