What on earth is this diamond pendant ?

Hello everyone.. I'm trying to find out what this is and would appreciate some help. wth.jpg

It came in a lot of stuff I bought with a diamond tester which tests as a diamond, but being a guy I have no idea what this is or how to go about selling it without knowing the name, I know its white gold but that's all I can tell, there are 11 little diamonds 2.5mm~ and 4 flat ones, judging by the big space it looks like another rock should go there.

Anyone know what this is called and perhaps a general value ? Just trying to determine if its a $100 piece or $1000 piece for starters so I know how to go about selling it.

Thanks for any help
John

It is an empty setting for what appears to be a pendant. The diamonds on the top look to be rounds and baguettes. They make up what is known as a bail to the pendant. Worth is basically whatever you could get for it but it is a setting for a pendant for a diamond purchased separately.

So its called a pendant with any empty setting? I was hoping it had a user friendly name like an engagement ring or something. Thanks anyway for the info, it doesn't sound to me like worth and what you can get for it are the same. They usually never are.

It’s a pendant setting. If you can, measure the inside distance between two diagonally opposite prongs, looks like 6mm to me, that way when /if you sell it people know what size round gem will fit in the basket (that’s what the prong section is called).

ok thanks, so what would you ask for it if you put it on ebay ?

its 1.9gm white gold with 11 small diamonds and 4 square ones. and the width between each peg is 5mm so it basically fits a 1cm stone.

5mm is for a 1/2 ct stone. I would put it for $100 give or take. Not sure what others will do.

I would list it for $200 or best offer and consider accepting any offer over $170. It’s worth more obviously with a gem set in it but it’s $50 or more just to set a gem. If you have a local, reasonably priced jeweler you could consider setting a garnet or amethyst in it (cheaper gem option).

Do you think its worth it ? I do know a jeweler but not sure what the return would be on something like that or how much such a stone even costs.

We don't know. We can't tell you. Your information is vague and your measurement ("about 5mm between each peg") is not what was requested; the cost of a dummy stone will likely depend greatly on size/carat.

You will find very few people remotely interested in entertaining a purchase of an empty setting without knowing the karat of the setting or what size stone (exactly what size stone, not "about 1cm") it will hold. It is most likely a calibrated size, but may not be. How did you determine gold weight without a jeweller?

It sounds like you're hoping to make some money on this... threads like this irritate me beyond reason, so I'll be your wet dishrag: you won't. Certainly not until you go to a jeweller and find out what you've got.

I would add that if this item confused you I don’t think that trying to sell jewelry on eBay is a good venture for you.

you gotta love the responses from the regulars with 10,000 posts. they're all negative and useless. the only person that responded with anything proper was the white dog.

as a hetero male I have no reason to know what this is and that is why one turns to a forum, this doesn't prevent from asking or selling anything.. shock to you, I have sold estate assets and storage auctions for 15 years with good success. I never became a dressmaker when I sold a dress or a computer programmer when I sold a PC and it worked out every time from $5 trinkets to $20,000 enterprise servers.

good luck with whatever you guys are trying to achieve. its just a bunch of nonsense to me and some foolish assertions, like I want to become a jeweler. I was just looking for a starting point so I know how to treat this item.

I'd like to point out we have many men on this forum who are straight. Jewelry isn't just for women and gay men. We have many married men here who have diamonds of their own.

Probably don’t want to learn anything about jewelry then - might hurt your fragile masculinity.

Do your own research as to what your item is worth. Don’t come to a forum and expect others to do your homework for you so you can profit from our knowledge.

Looks like you have a good track record with auctions... list it for $5K.

What does being hetero have to do with anything???

You are correct, I don't want to learn about jewelery. If I pick up something new that's great but diamonds come around once in a blue moon for me so why would I want to indulge in this subject. I also don't think its any of your business how others respond to me, not everyone is as bitter as you and if they want to tell me what it is and its general value it is none of your business. You seem to think that others can't enjoy a conversation on their own without your approval. I find that stupid because if you ever check a forum on any subject, you will find one of questions all the time. There was no need for your to respond at all because you added nothing but hate and irrelevant junk based on how you think others should interact in a forum, which is not supported by the terms, its open and free forum and if someone wants to ask what this is worth they have every right to. you know the saying, if you have nothing to add why even bother trolling, all you told me is that you're upset because I'm looking for free info, whoo what a sin ..

Also if you're offering free forum lessons you might want to pick up your game a little, the question was answered long before you chimed in, making your response even more embarrassing and irrelevant.

You’ve made such a quick opinion of me.
Yes, no one is allowed to talk to anyone without my personal consent. You’ve figured it out! But don’t worry. No one was enjoying this conversation.

I actually think my advise was quite helpful. you clearly don’t even have a passing knowledge of basic jewelry language. I firmly believe you shouldn’t try your hand at selling jewelry online.

Best advice yet.

Do you maybe have friends who are more well versed in this? Thy might have better luck listing and selling this for you.

You guys are real funny. Why do you think a degree is required for selling a piece of jewelry. I merely asked for a starting point, if someone told me it was worth $10k then I would have done more research or appraisal or hired a pro but a ~$200 piece is about as easy to sell as any other ebay item. I don't know why you guys like to assume so much when you actually know nothing about what I'm trying to achieve. The junk you guys write clearly give this away, its even sadder to hear that you consider identifying an item and giving a rough value as knowledge, when has a one word answer even been regarded as knowledge. For your records, since you're so concerned about me, I have sold dozens of jewelry piece in the past with great success so wrong again and I'll keep doing so without your approval, maybe it didn't get as much as a jeweler would have but again that's not my point. I'm not looking to become the top of every field because I literally have thousands of different items.

Good luck trolling regulars, you guys are the ones that write off most forums because you make it a habit to add nonsense when you're not man enough to add real input, If I need help listing something on ebay I'm pretty sure I'll be in a retirement home but you guys will still me making dumb guesses, poor assertions and trying to distract from what you're really doing, which is hating and trolling and giving negative advice like find a friend to sell it.

PS: don't mean to be rude but I made a $100 since my last post 12 minutes ago. keep trolling guys.

:whistle: Shooooooooooootttt. :appl::appl:

I would think the setting is worth around $50-100. You’ll need to find exact details about it. Take it to a jeweler to find out what dimensions of a stone will fit in it, the diamond ctw etc. There is no ‘fancy’ name for a simple pendant setting.

Does it have a stamp inside it when you magnify it to tell you if it's 9K, 14K or 18K white gold? Or platinum? That greatly impacts what it is worth. And if you only get around $100 for it on Ebay then by the time you take off their fees taking it to a pawn broker or a jeweller or a place that buys and sells the metal for scrap and the diamonds to reuse might yield you more money because it's probably not everyone's taste in pendant setting.

I think the pendant top would look nice with a pearl hanging from it. I am not sure if it can be modified to hold one, and the diamonds would have to be good quality. It probably wouldn't be worth much though so I am not sure if it would be worth it to you. I would take it to a jeweler that does appraisals and see what he thinks about the stones. If you had some one you could eventually give it to, I would hold on to it. It might be lovely with a stone in it.

You guys are real funny. Why do you think a degree is required for selling a piece of jewelry.

No one said you needed to get a degree to sell jewelry. They did however say take it to a jeweler multiple times.

You came here asking for advice based off of a picture alone. How is anyone supposed to give you any idea of how much the pendant is worth? It could be sterling with CZ's, it could be platinum with D/IF melee. It's like trying to get a someone to buy your car with one picture alone and your word. That's just sounds silly by itself. More than one person advised you to take it to a jeweler. Perhaps heed their advice.

If you've sold dozens of jewelry pieces, you should know by now that you should take it to a jeweler to be reviewed. No one expects you to become to top of every field. That's why posters have suggested you take it to a jeweler who knows what they are looking at.

The rest is just arrogant as all hell. You came here for advice on something you clearly did not know (otherwise why would you ask to begin with). One person doesn't respond in the manner which you'd like and you lose your mind. Good luck with that.

I was looking for a starting point and a lot of people have already suggested $100 - $200. When it doesn't sell in a few listings for the asking price I will lower it. It came in a lot purchase so my investment in it is next to nothing Thanks for the input from the normal people.

Hi, white dog lady back again. Your local jeweler if he has a bench (the name for a workshop) rather than just being a jewellery selling shop he/she can find you a nice small amethyst I imagine for $20 and set it for you for maybe another $40. I think it’s easier to sell on eBay especially with a gem in it, because most eBay shopper like jewelry “ready to wear”. I’ve been buying on eBay over 12 years (mostly jewelery) and I think around $200 is a fair price for a diamond set amythest pendant. I suggest amythest (a purple gem) because it’s a popular gem. Obviously better gems, like sapphire, cost more and make the pendant worth more but hey, under $250 is a great price point for most eBay buyers. If you wanted to go all out, I checked eBay, you can get a 9ct white gold 18” fine necklace for about $40 US (seller is in UK though) - put the pendant on the necklace and ask $250.
Then it’s “Bobs your uncle” - Aussie saying meaning “good to go”!

As a consumer...I agree with having a gemstone ( maybe a birthstone? ) put in it....along with a professional opinion and description of the pendant from a jeweler for your listing. If choosing a birthstone...I would consider an upcoming month for your ebay posting...not a recently past one. The suggestion for Amethyst is a great one. February birthstone!

I think your pendant is lovely but I would want to know what it is made of. If you have a stone inserted....Please come back and post a photo.

Not pointing a finger.....I was sorry to see how this simple inquiry for help quickly spun into a ditch. I find this Forum to be extremely helpful in just a week of membership! My new obsession!
