What kind of old cut is this?

And the search goes on....

This is WAY WAY WAY out of my price range, but for the sake of :read: education I was wondering what kind of cut is this? I mean, I know its probably OEC, but what does it mean when the under table facets look more like a windmill (like square at the end) rather than a flower? Whenever I see this I don't know what to make of it.

Just a different cut flavour. What do you mean by square at the end?

Not sure how to describe what I mean. :? I guess what I am asking is what is the flavor? Is it an older OEC? All the OECs I have seen have a flower petal type pattern under the table...some more distinct than others but this one looks lie the end of the petals are chopped off.

There is no standardized OEC or antique cut - each one is slightly different from each other with no specific name assigned. I know this isn't helpful at all, so I'm sorry I cannot explain it with better clarity. Even the term "flower" or "mosiac" isn't official. These are terms that we PSers have coined ourselves to help express the different flavours.

valmanin, I have this stone saved in my eBay "watch list". Not that I can afford it either, but then again it doesn't hurt to dream. Maybe for my 25th anniversary? :naughty:

This seller also has a 6ct OEC listed! :o

I think the culet is bigger than you sometimes see, and a little less symmetry from the look of it. Considering the price of the piece, I can't believe the seller doesn't have larger photos listed.

I'll attach a pic of two OEC contenders Adam sent me a while ago (before I found my 1.75ct stone). The one on the left has a less flowery facet pattern I think. Just a different flavor. I imagine it will be hard to judge whether you like this flavor or not without seeing it in person.

Given the large culet, I was wondering if it was an OMC or early OEC? I know, no larger photos...just a video.

Thanks Gem! It does seem that the best education is seeing everything you can IRL. But, I am NOT shipping back and forth to the UK. :nono:

I saw that too! But there is over my budget and then there is OUT of my budget forever.

Depends; some OECs just have smaller culets and same have almost giant looking "holes".

Okay...just realized that could sound really snotty like I'm dogging anyone who is looking for under carat diamond. I was just referring to FK's holy grail which is almost 4cts. Making a joke about thinking it was THAT big.
