I also love seeing my family. It is the only time we all assemble in any given year (unless there is a wedding or funeral), since we are really scattered. It is my chance to see everyone. We come to my grandmother''s little dinky town and pretty much take over the local hotel. Since none of us know anyone else in her town, we spend obscene amounts of time together. (This is much unlike DH. His family lives in the town he and his brother grew up in so when they go "home" they have to schedule time to visit friends, too).
The food is amazing, too! My good southern grandma makes gravy and a pie to go with everything. Seconds please!
I also like any opportunity for reflection and renewal, which is why New Year''s is my favorite Winter holiday.
