Hellow all!! I was wondering what is the distinctive difference between the GIA's I1, I2, and I3? On the web not much is stated to pin point the distinctive differences. All that I read was that I1 has a large range and I2 has more occlusions than I1. Any imput would be helpful. I've read also that most EGL SI2 AND SI3 fall in GIA I1. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!! Happy holiday's!

I1 may be acceptable to some consumers. I2 is mostly unacceptable to visually astute consumers, but may have a bit of brilliancy left, and I3 is pretty much a faceted lump at the lowest GIA clarity grade. I3 is a catch-all grade and there are diamonds of truly no quality within I3 and some with a tiny bit of quality here and there within the stone. I3 is a big, wide grade with virtually nothing pretty in it.

I1's may be quite nice looking. Often earrings are I1 clarity and are just fine for that use.

I-1 has inclusions or imperfections that the grader feels affect the beauty or durability of the stone.
I-2 has inclusions that SUBSTANTIALLY affect the beauty or durability of the stone.
I-3 has inclusions that SEVERELY affect the beauty or durability of the stone (or both).
