This varies widely for us. Normally we give small gifts unless there is something big one of us wants (and that would normally be me!). Maybe once a year I think of a jewelry item for him to get me, and that usually costs more than I would be spending on him. Other times we might do cards, dinner, maybe flowers. I just have no desire for more stuff at this point. But when I find something I really love, then he buys it!

For anniversaries, we typically spend about $300 on each other. I bought DH a really nice ipod and accessories last year. He bought me new sheets with monogrammed pillowcases (I love me some monogramming) and a storm door I had been bugging him for months about. It was the kind where it's all glass and the screen is in a cassette in the top, but I digress. (Too bad we sold that house four months later!)

This year we had an agreement, or so I thought, that we wouldn't buy gifts for each other due to how much we spent remodeling our new house. So I got him nothing. He got me a Kindle 2. I'm supposed to buy him some Echo trimmer/edger thingy for the yard to make up for it.

I think mine keeps going up each year, ''cause I''m trying to top the previous year. DF seems to just do what he likes with regard to gifts for me. I don''t know that he''ll ever top the engagement ring though. That was a pretty big purchase.

We don't exchange gifts for birthdays or holidays, instead we write handwritten letters to each other. Best. Gifts. Ever.
I have every letter DH has written me in the five years we've been together, and so does he. I like to read through them and see the progression of our relationship--can't imagine how fun that will be thirty years from now!

One of us will occasionally find something that is one-of-a-kind and *really* great for the other, so we'll splurge and buy it. We don't wait for an occasion, though, we just gift each other as soon as possible!

It varies, but I $200-500 has been the typical range for both of us until BF lost his job. Now he spends less. I will probably continue giving him gifts in the same price range I had previously.

This is really sweet Haven. Did he have to be "talked into" it to start or a letter writer to begin with?
