Over the years we have seen stones come in to favor. There are always blue sapphires and rubies, and for awhile there were Paraiba Tourmalines,Tanzanites, Mahenge Spinels, and Demontoid Garnets. FCD's never go out of style but what do you think the new "It" stone is for 2014. Have we reached a lull in which no particular stone holds favor and we all just pick and choose what we like? All the stones I listed are still going up in price as it seems all gemstones. But what do you see (if at all) the new must have gemstone for 2014?

Am I crazy or are blue zircons ready for a little love? Nothing like a well cut clean blue zircon to throw some awesome flash.

speaking of which, I've seen lots of well-cut, flashy looking zircons appear on jeff davies' pinterest recently. I'm not sure if I've ever seen these in real life, but they sure are beautiful in photos!

Blue green emeralds.

I'm guessing garnets. I feel like there were a lot of sapphires last year.

Per marketing or whatever, 2013 was the year of emerald green. 2014 is supposedly the year of orchid-like colours (blend of purple, fushia and pink). Does anyone know who makes these up?

It is Pantone that promotes the "color of the year", and which the trade organizations latch on to. The 2014 color is Royal Orchid.

As for what is THE color for this year, it may very well be the blue Zircon type of color. This past week we conducted a sales event on the east coast with a retail jeweler. Of the 31 gems we sold, 12 were Zircon. Very telling I believe.

Yay, it's about time blue zircons receive wider recognition and appreciation.

Zircon isn't horribly expensive. Maybe I'll get a smaller one next if I can find a good deal.

Now don't you guys go driving blue zircon prices up, I need one for a pendant I'm planning but don't have the money for yet.

:geek:

Hi,

I have some Kunzite that matches the pink, fushia, purplely color .

I like the idea of blue zircon. It will be a nice sparkly stone,

Annette

I don't know if it is an "it" stone, but when you talk about high prices per carat, tsavorite is through the roof right now!

We were at MOA last week and it seems like there was alot of the blue teal sort of color in clothing and accessories for spring also.

Can you imagine a blue zircon and diamind parure? Talk about flash! You could see it from space lol!

I thought pantone was a very dry cake that is hard to choke down

Well, there are spinel, sapphire and garnet with the Pantone orchid colour too. Hmmm....we should try to promote sphene next year!

I think it may be demantoid

VL,
Green (demantoid) was SO last year. :cheeky:

Hey, and I bought one last year! Does that mean for once in my life I was in with the "in crowd"? :cheeky:

Great thread! I'm wondering why specifically BLUE zircon? I have some lovely natural ones in pink, white and honey

Don't have any specific predictions but I'd love some err... cheaper gemstones to be more fashionable. Moonstone, quartz, agate etc...
