Can someone please tell me what the polygon network is? Who sets the prices on the stones charged to the vendor/dealer? And when the stone gets to the consumer level, how much mark-up is there?
Polygon is a network open to those in the trade. They have at least one forum. I do not know what else Polygon does besides providing a place for jewelers to talk (and fight amongst themselves).
To add: Polygon is a web listing of stones available for dealers to buy from *true* wholesalers/cutters. One must be in the trade & "subscribe" to the list. I believe the cost runs around 1k. If I am wrong, please correct me.

The prices of the diamonds are set by the person/company that owns them. The mark-up to the consumer is the same, it is up to the owner.
Mark-up in a jewelry store usually depends on the cost. The higher the cost, the lower the mark-up. A $0.35 (cost) watch battery often ends up costing $10.00 or more installed in the watch. The mark-up on a diamond that cost $3000 and one that cost $15,000 would be different. Every store sets it own policy.
