I recentlly received a quote list from a jeweler with side notes which said that some of the stones were GIA Ideals and others were GIA Super Ideals? What is the difference?

Sorry to say but your jeweller is talking BS. GIA doens''t grade Ideal or super-ideal, their top grading is excellent. It''s your jeweller that has labelled them as such.

Only AGS has ideal as their top grading. Maybe your jeweller means that if the stone was graded by AGS it would fall into idea category.

Can you post the numbers from the cert? We can tell you more about how well cut the stone is.

I do see the term "super ideal cut" thrown around here every now and then too.

Labels are used differently. Even the word 'ideal' has abusive applications and can mean radically different things, depending on the person/seller using it.

In strictly applied terms a 'superideal' round diamond refers to one with commonly agreed 'ideal' proportions (typically a near-Tolkowksy make backed up by a top grading report) coupled with a high level of optical symmetry, or 'hearts & arrows' patterning.

Thank you very much for the clarification, John! Appreciated your answer!!

You''re far too kind... Perhaps replace the word ''adored'' with ''tolerated.''
