Hi all,

This is my first post. Got this Perry Chen sourced antique cushion, which will be mounted by LM for an engagement ring. Specs: 1.15 ct G/VS1 Old Mine Brilliant. What do you think of it? My only concern is I've never shown her diamonds with an open culet, but I don't think it'll be an issue because she doesn't educate herself on diamonds... that's my job.

I think it's beautiful...

Thanks! I do wish the culet was a bit smaller, but something about this stone just stood out compared to the others Perry showed me. I can see what the obsession over antique cushions is here, I've never seen anything else like it!

The modern antique cushions are so popular here for a reason - I'm sure she'll fall in love with it as you have!

I don't think it is wise to spend so much money on anything you aren't sure of.

I would find a way to see how she feels about open culets. If that means involving a friend, sibling, cousin, or other relative then do so.

I think it is beautiful! What are the diameter measurements, though? I worry a little about cushions that size facing up too small. Or will it be set in a halo?

It'll be set in a halo with milgrain.

We looked at many styles of settings and stones, she's very adamant about me choosing everything to keep it a surprise.

I don't know about anyone else but large culets are so beautiful to meand in real life, it don't think it will be as noticeable as your picture. I think the diamond is absolutely beautiful!

Looks gorgeous to me!

:nono: :nono: :nono: I seriously don't understand women like this. But okay... since she's decided that you are the one who is to pick out the ring she will wear for the rest of her life and spend thousands of dollars on, without her input then... do what you think is best.

Normally I would have no issue with a culet, because most people buy from vendors with good upgrade and return policies, so if there is an issue it can be quickly addressed to everyone's satisfaction To my knowledge, with Perry though once you get that puppy set in a Leon setting it's non-returnable. And I'm just not comfortable with that for a surprise ring. But... different strokes and all that.

Well it's not going to be a random off-the-wall surprise. I know she wants a halo, a split shank, and lots of micropave. She likes both cushions and rounds set in a squarish halo. She's just never seen an antique style cushion. That being said, she's liked some pretty bad diamonds (before I pointed it out) because the settings were pretty  One of her dream rings was a double halo split shank Vera Wang, unfortunately they seem to throw in whatever center stone they feel and don't offer certificates.

I tend to agree with Gypsy. If I were you, I would have got the diamond from Good Old Gold and then have LM set it. OR, have GOG do a custom setting. They are making some beautiful custom settings right now. Anyway, I would want to have an upgrade or return policy with the stone. Perhaps that is something you can negotiate with Perry and Leon.

I'll tell you honestly, I would rather have a good return policy.
I'd get a nice modern cushion like this one: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Good-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1440428.asp (you'd ask for an ASET, which Perry doesn't offer as Leon doesn't believe in them, to confirm performance but I think it's a really nice stone). It has a 60 day return policy and an upgrade policy on it.

And ask Steven Kirsch (who is in the same building as Leon and used to work with Leon, and has none of his fussy rules about outside stones) to make me a split shank halo setting: http://timelessluxury.net/

But that's me. I like having upgrade and return policies on my pieces. You never know what is going to happen. You can also just ASK Perry if he will agree to a return policy on this stone and see if he will give you one.

*I* think it is a beautiful stone but it is a big cutlet.
