My second round of picks from James Allen as my first picks didn't live up to what I wanted. I have requested IdealScope image for this stone too. I will update once it arrives.

RB 1.24 ct J VS2 Excellent Cut. Looks clean (according to my novice eye on the Virtual Loop). Scores a 1.0 on the HCA which is nice.

I feel it's a good price for this size/clarity/cut. Would come out to about $6300 I believe. I'm really trying to find that balance of "size" (relative, I know) --> quality (color, clarity, cut).

I love all the specs on this stone aside from being a little wary of the J color. I went through similar threads by others of their concern for J color stones looking noticeably colored, and even went through the HUGE thread of J color pictures users submitted (which was comforting). I plan on setting in platinum, plain "tiffany" style solitaire setting. No side stones/pave. It appears, to many people, that an Excellent cut J stone faces up very well.

I welcome anybody's critique, opinions, ideas, etc. about this stone and my concerns. I'm so glad I found these online communities before just blindly buying something haha. I feel a (slight) step-ahead of the game now. Thank you in advance for all the help =)

The stone looks beautiful! Can you post the idealscope image just so we can be sure?

Color is so personal. I have seen a superideal cut stone that was assessed as a J by an appraiser, and I really couldn't see color face up. And people aren't going to be holding up the ring to see it from the side. So if she is not color sensitive, I don't think you'll have a problem. I do think basket heads are nice for lower colors, though, as they obscure some of the side view.

I think it looks great! JA has a great return policy in case the color bothers you (or her). If she hasn't already seen it, just propose within the return period.

These are two of my favorite JA settings that I thought I'd add based on DS's comment that more of a basket-style setting can obscure the side view, and therefore any slight body color in the stone:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire-rings/ring/item_57-4129.asp (essentially the same setting, but the surprise stones on the sides would definitely cover the side view)

Thanks for the responses.

Ohh, I never really looked at the "basket" style settings before. I actually kind of like the first one you provide. Definitely worth considering.

I have been leaning towards this six-prong setting in platinum. It seems like it may obscure the sides just enough with the six prongs to have a similar effect as the basket?

I will definitely update when I receive the IdealScope's as well. Thanks a ton for the input so far. Greatly appreciated.

Wow, JA turned that IdealScope request around rather quickly <24hours.

Anyways, I think this IdealScope is really good looking (to my untrained eyes at least). What do you all think?

Here is what the JA rep had to say from the Gemologist inspection:

"It's eye clean, has an excellent cut, and out performs diamond xxxxxxx! It possesses excellent fire, brilliance, and scintillation and will look fantastic in any setting. The idealscope image looks fantastic as well, featuring lots of red/pink coloration."

I am tempted to pull the trigger on this one with my only concern being the color. I would like to purchase it already set, but am wondering if I should get just the loose stone now to see if the coloration is an issue to me.

Very nice!
Get it loose and make sure you're okay with it. The hundred, hundred-fifty you spend in shipping will be well worth the peace of mind and better not to have to remove a stone from a setting and replace it if it can be avoided.

I agree, take a look at it loose, but also keep in mind that the color will be more obvious to you loose than it will ever be in a setting. It's a gorgeous stone. Nice find! :appl:

Very nice stone. I think it will look fabulous in any of those solitaire settings you posted. My favorite was the T&Co style setting. Can't wait to see which setting you pick.

Great looking IS

Yssie- JA doesn't send a label for it's customers to send stones back free of charge? I thought they provided that service to their customers?

will a white gold or platinum setting enhance the yellow color? while a yellow gold setting will help hide it?

Do they? They might, and I just don't know about it - I haven't tried to return anything from them. That's even better!
