Hello, I'm in the process of shopping for a diamond for my my girlfriends engagement ring. After doing some research I'm conducting some test runs shopping-wise.

Here is what I'm looking for:
Color: i-h
Cut : excellent
Size(proportions): largest without loosing cut quality
Carrat: 1.6 to 1.9
Clarity: vs2 or better
Budget: 12500

Here is what I came up with on my first try
https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/l...-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2842112

I got the IS image and it looks great from what I can tell. I'll try to figure out how to post it or link to it here.

I'm aware of the strong blue florescents but have read it most likely would not affect the appearance of the diamond.

If you could, some opinions on my choice based on my criteria would really help! Don't hold back if I messed up! Any info helps!

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the reply! Are those hard numbers? Like I shouldn't consider anything at all outside of those ranges?

Also any thoughts on the choice otherwise? Was I close or way off?

The numbers suggested are not "hard" in that its all math and sometimes other numbers work. This stone has a great spread (7.85 mm) for its weight. But, the angles are not the best to generate solid performance. While I rarely use video to look at color, having seen a lot of JA videos, this seems to show more body color that most I's they show. But, that could be a video effect.

I like these better (ask if the flour affects the diamond). The video looks dim, but that is simply the photo setup (JA seems to have a variety of photo/lighting setups used by vendors). If you play these video side-by-side with your diamond, you can see how much more fire these have.

Wow! You are absolutely right. It took me a couple looks but there is a distinct difference. Thank you so much for the insight. Would you say the first diamond listed is a good value? As far as price is concerned if I was super diligent would I be able to get over 1.7ct with my budget without sacrificing quality?

#1 gets you over 1.7 there. As i recall, there were not a ton of options and this looked good and were in buget. I'd put #1 on 48 hour hold (its free) asap...diamonds move fast. Then, request an Idealscope image and ank if the fluorescence makes the diamond hazy (very rare). Folks can look for additional options, but don't lose this one while we search. We will see if we can find bigger in budget.

edited to fix fat-fingered typos on the phone :)

#3. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-i-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-3151835 {Good IS. AGS0. Great option with AGS0, but a bit smaller.}

#4. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-i-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-2171544 @rockysalamander would that little black inclusion be an issue? {To some, yes. I personally avoid dark inclusions right in the table. If it was the largest option, I might give it a chance. But, I your #3 is a solid option and bigger.}

#4. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...h-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3618712 {not my favorite angles, I like #1 and 3 better}

#5. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3267932. {Good choice and bigger, I still like #1 and #3 better.}

OP - JA only provides 3 IS images per email it is requested from. I like #1 and #3 the best so far. I'd ask for IS on both of these and let's hang on to that 3rd request in case these don't perform as expected. :mrgreen2:

The 1.71 i vvs1 looks brownish, you should try asking how is the color.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for your help and I put! I ended up choosing this diamond:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2694013

With a petite pave 14k gold setting with 6 platinum prongs.

It'll ship out in a couple days when I hear back from customer service regarding the setting confirm.

If I missed anything in the IS image that would dissuade me from the diamond. Speak now or forever hold your peace!

Thanks again! (Speacial thanks to rockysalamander!)
