My original engagement ring was stolen back in August (well, our whole home was broken into and my ring was just one of MANY things that we lost) I recently purchased a new diamond online from a reputable website and I sent it to NY to be put into a dainty replica antique ring at Leigh Jay Nacht. THEN I discovered PS and can't help but second guess my diamond purchase!!! I haven't seen the diamond in person yet, but I was told it shows much 'whiter' in person than the photo I was given.

What do you guys think, did I do ok with this purchase WITHOUT the knowledge I've gained AFTER finding you guys ?! :?

GIA certified "Cushion Brilliant"

Measurements- 6.17 x 5.76 x 3.97mm
Color Grade- I
Cut- Excellent
Clarity- VS2
Polish- Very Good
Symmetry- Good
Fluor.- None

Table- 62

Culet- None

..... I paid $3831... :$$):

Here is the photo I have of the diamond .... and below are photos of the setting I am having it put into.
Do you think it'll be really 'yellow' ??? I don't mind warmth, but the photo seems a bit yellower than I see in a lot of other I's on here.

Thank you SO much for your help! I just need some reassurance that I did alright for a newbie and didn't buy something overpriced or a bad stone. And if I did, I can still return it- just with a bit of hassle.

I like it!
I like the color it doesn't look yellow it looks brown, which I like. I like the setting, that color makes the stone look antique, which matches well with the setting. And the color metal and pave really makes for a nice contrast, from the photos I don't think it looks like an I though. Was it gia cert?

Sorry, to clarify- the stone in the photos with the setting is NOT my stone. That's the stock photo on the LJN website and it's a champagne diamond :)

My diamond is the one above (the single diamond photo) .... I don't have any photos of my diamond set in the setting yet!

Well your stone looks pretty yellow. If you don't mind it I guess it looks ok. I'm not a fan of this cut cushion, but if you like it, that's what matters.

What 'type' of Cushion would you say it is? I know I didn't want the 'crushed ice' look but I couldn't really afford the gorgeous chunkier look of other older cuts.... which would be my first choice, by far. When I was diamond hunting, I had to find a diamond that was no smaller than 5.8mm x 5.8 mm and as square as possible for the setting to look its best. They let the size of my diamond slide and said it would work. I couldn't seem to find many diamonds with those size specs in my budget ($3800)

As for the colour ... it's GIA I ... but like I said, the photo looks really yellow (I agree with you) Wouldn't it be rated lower (J or K maybe) if it really showed with such a strong tint? Could it possibly be just a crappy photo??

*sigh*

Oh wow that completely though me off! You know you could totally afford a nice chunky one in an r or something like that. Then it WOULD look more like the stock photo. I don't like crushed ice cushions in the I-k range, I find the lower colors nicer and more deliberate looking
I love this one from jewels by erica grace

Sorry if I'm totally confusing! lol Like I said, I'm a newbie and only just started reading up on PS.

As much as I love the champagne diamond in the stock photos, I wanted to buy a white stone for my new engagement ring. I wanted the look of a more traditional 'engagement' ring and not a fancy coloured diamond. I only posted those photos to show what type of setting my diamond was going to be placed in.

So, that's why I went with the I instead of a K or lower. As 'colourless/near colourless' as I could find in my budget, with the size requirements I was given.

Am I making sense?

Oh yes it was totally my fault about the stone confusion lol

I'm sorry about your house getting burglarized! ! :((

What were the size requirements yoir talking anout??

I mean, it depends, is the stone returnable? Is the setting finished?

The stone is returnable, but it is getting set right now (should be done in the next day or so) Which is why I mentioned it would be a bit of a hassle to send it back. It can be done, though.

I get that the diamond may not be everyone's taste, but I guess what I'm just wondering is if you think I paid the correct price for what I bought. Did I buy a terrible diamond that wasn't worth the $3800 price tag? If so, then I'd definitely look into trading it for something else. If I purchased the stone for what it's worth, I'm ok with that.

I can live with a warmer/yellower stone, and I don't dislike the facet pattern ... it's still pretty in my eyes... even though I find the more vintage stones to die for. (Perhaps I can ask the Hubby for an anniversary present with one down the road :wink2: :naughty: )

Of all the stones you linked (04DIAMOND<3), the only one that fit the size requirements (5.8 x 5.8 min.) would be the first one. Why does that one look SO WHITE compared to the photo of my diamond, even though they're both I colour?! I'm so confused! lol

Also, why do they call that one a 'Modified Cushion Brilliant' when I think it looks very similar to my stone?

Based on the one picture, I really like it! To me, it's very promising. I'm not sure that the pic is reflective of it's true colour. If it's an 'I' chances are it will be much whiter than what the picture shows. It could be something in the surrounding environment that the stone was picking up when they took the pic. An I is still considered to be in the colourless zone, especially if it's a GIA graded stone. It might have a slight brown modifier but lots of ppl love that, myself included. Sorry I can't comment on the depth bc I'm not a cushion expert. Did they say it was a great performer?

Eta: I took some horrible pics of a new stone yesterday, it looks horribly yellow but on RL it's amazingly white and bright.

^^^^ Thank you for that! They told me it looks white in RL, so that's why the photo concerned me. I also didn't know to ask for "ASET" pics or anything like that when I bought it so I can't see how it performs. Oops! 'They' say it's a really nice stone, if that means anything! :D

Uggg .... maybe I should just settle down and wait for the ring to be fully finished and shipped to see it in person and judge for myself. lol

I dont mind the faceting at all, and i wish it had an aset, but it does look promising, and it doesnt look all that "crushed ice" to me, not like other cushions ive seen. Andi think the price seems pretty much right. I was looking for chunky ones, but if you need that square one like that ratio- i think its a good one. And yeah it might have a tint, but your setting is perfect for a stone with a little tint

I think you'll love it and it's much too soon to panic. Great setting btw, very good choice.

Thank you. I wanted something dainty and vintage looking ... and simple. The little butterfly on the side is a little quirk I thought was fun because my original E-ring has a little heart in the same spot. :) My original was a Princess cut so I thought I'd go for a cushion this time since 1) I LOVE them and find them so romantic with lots of character ... and 2) I'm still sticking to a square shaped diamond to remind me of my old ring.

I will DEFINITELY continue to read up on PriceScope so that my next diamond purchase will be perfect with no 'buyers remorse' whatsoever!! lol
