Hi all,

I have been keeping my eyes out for a necklace I can wear every day to work that's nice but not flashy. I was immediately drawn to this double strand DBTY-type necklace. I was hoping I could draw on your expertise regarding the pricing and quality.

From the item description certificate: One double strand, 14K white gold and diamond necklace measuring approximately 18 inches in length. The necklace is set with thirteen round brilliant cut diamonds. The total diamond weight is 0.62cts or greater. The diamond clarity is VS2 or better. The diamond colour is I or better.

I know I should take it to an appraiser for a definitive evaluation, but in your opinion, would someone be crazy to spend $1200 on this? I thought I'd be able to easily find comparables online, but I've been searching...and haven't!

Here are some photos (with a dime for comparison):

Really appreciate your opinions!

Looks good to me. I'm not really nit-picky (in terms of a professional evaluation/grading/appraisal, etc.) when it comes to jewelry with that sort of price tag. I love DBTY necklaces and I will likely purchase one from Etsy in the near future.

I LOVE that necklace! I have been looking for a necklace like that and didn't want to go custom due to my bad luck with custom jewelry. Would you mind sharing where you found this? I am looking for one strand to be DBTY and the other to be plain to hang a small sentimental pendant on. :) From my experience I think $1200 is reasonable. Definitely not a steal, but a fair price if it's what you're looking for. FWIW I'd pay it :)

It's lovely. But you didn't buy it from ebay did you? If so... who was the seller?

Thanks for weighing in! I'm not worried about grading either;just wanting to make sure I'm not paying $1200 if similar items are selling for $600 or something.

It's not an eBay item. I actually found it in a display case at Costco when I went to look at this bracelet: http://www.costco.com/Round-Brillia...6-ctw)-14kt-White-Gold.product.100013565.html

The bracelet was nice, but the necklace just felt as though it was exactly what I've been looking for. Costco has a nice return policy, so I went for it. Hopefully I won't need to be returning it, however. It really does seem to have that understated elegance I was looking for.

I don't think you are crazy at all. And Costco has very nice diamond jewelry and the necklace is gorgeous frankly.

As long as we are talking about Costco jewelry while I have never bought any here's a necklace I couldn't help but get a pic of last month. It looks prettier IRL.

Muzio that DBTY looks very pretty. Not sure about the price though as it's only .62 carats. Have you checked out the PS vendors for pricing?

Thanks for letting me know! I never think to look at Costco, but hey since I'm right down the road from the biggest Costco in the world I'll go take a look! I found online EXACTLY what I'm looking for - but $2k is too much!

Why don't you just buy a single DBTY necklace and a single chain for your pendant? If you really need them joined at the clasp area, any jeweler can do that.

I think 5 pointers are really tiny. I have an 18"one with 7 pointers and I feel those are hard to really see. That would be my main concern. I'd really rather have one chain with slightly larger stones.

Yes that is probably what I will end up doing. I already have my pendant on a box chain but I hate how it always spins (and the clasp ends up in front! ugh) which is why I want them connected, and I just LOVE the DBTY necklaces for the tiny sparkle. It is one of those projects that if I saw it for the right price I'd buy it but right now I'm more focused on repurchasing my wedding rings so I probably won't go out of my way to find one until I have my rings. :) thanks though!
