I''ve been looking for a while and just found a cushion that looks nice in person, but I don''t know if its well cut stone or not. It is a beauty to look at, but the table seems large and it was rather flat. Is this a problem? Please tell me what you think of this stone...

Cushion
1.97 ct
7.98 X 7.13 X 4.76
Depth 66.8 %
Table 67 %
Girdle Slightly Thick to Very Thick, faceted
Culet None
Polish Good
Sym Good
Clarity VS2
Color H
Flor None

Does anyone know of an ideal table and depth for cushion cuts, or any other numbers I should look out for?

Thank you!

I am not aware of any set of "ideal" proportions for a cushion cut

As for any fancy cut, there is not much to look for or to stay away from... just size and brilliance. The first depends mostly on total depth and girdle width, the second could be asessed using some specialized device (such as the Ideal or Brilliance Scope) - if this is a priority for you.

The "flat" look could be an effect of the rather large table, as far as I can guess. The depth could be less, but for this weight range it would be the thick girdle that wastes material. My guess is that a cushion cut could be more brilliant, than these proportions are likely to deliver - but this has to be checked in person to know.

The weight below 2cts may make this one a seemingly good deal... but it could be a bit larger for the weight (Example) due to cut alone.

Some may advocate for using AGA's tables for ovals (LINK) as a primary guideline for judging cushion cuts. This is not a bad idea at all, but it is definitely worth noting that numbers can go just so far - the chances to end up with a stone with soem obvious detraction decrease by using such a standard (say, the 1A-2A range) but there is no guessing the relatrive brilliance and look of the stone. Since there is no one standard cut called "cushion" - there is plenty of room for both personal choice and a better cut, no matter what it is that you are holding

There do not seem to be many cushion cuts selected for brilliance, but here's one LINK.

Not too much, but hope this helps
