Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to this and had a friend use an aset scope to take a image for me IN-STORE since i am overseas. The results aren't what i had hoped for and it seems like there is a lot of light leakage. It was shot upside down (ASET scope at the bottom and the diamond towards the ceiling) His hand covered the light on top since it was too bright from the light bulb. He isn't a professional and was just doing me a favor.

First image is the upside down version, the rest are shot from the top with ambient light being the lightsource, i know the quality aren't great. Do you guys think this is a good diamond, it's from one of the reputable luxury jewelers Cushion Modified Brilliant cut 1.49 Carat, F color, VS2. GIA graded Excellent polish and symmetry. 60%/66.6%

What do you guys think? feedback appreciated!

Cushions are difficult to shop for and ASET is not always kind to them.

That said, it does look very leaky on the ASET, plus I have a feeling that the twinkly store lights are doing their best to make it look good. It may well be very 'dead' in other lighting environments, but it's hard to know without similar videos.

If you are happy to post your budget and colour/clarity/carat size desires/requirements, we can help you identify good options from the PS-recommended vendors :)

I am confused when you say that the scope is upside down, what is holding the stone?

An ASET is not accurate unless it is set up correctly, however I suspect that this is a poorly cut cushion.

It's probably good as far as modern cushions are concerned. You likely won't find one a lot better as far as light return goes. I think it has a fairly decent facet pattern if you are looking for a more square cushion. However, I'd never overpay for a diamond at a luxury jeweler. I'd buy from an online vendor.

Overall, I give a B+.
The ASET is a B- ~ B. But the depth is is only 66%, meaning the diamond should have a good spread.
Some leakage is expected from 66% depth. In fact, it is actually not bad.
The price is an important determining factor at this point.

I think it's placed face down on a glass table and the ASETscope is pressed up against the bottom of the glass?

You may be right about the accuracy, though - doesn't the bottom edge of the ASETscope have to be parallel with the girdle of the diamond, rather than hovering above it? (the latter of which will effectively be the case if there is a glass tabletop between the two?)

Thanks for the feedback. The cost would be $35,700 in Micropave Setting. It is a luxury brand thus the inflated cost. If only considering "branded" products, is this diamond good enough to justify that cost? (when not considering non branded options, IE internet diamonds/prices)

Do you need a branded ring for cultural reasons?

If so, would it be possible to buy your own stone and have a brand-name store set it into one of their rings?

You could consider Victor Canera if you want very top-end quality and a 'known' name.

The cut quality is unacceptable for 35.7k or a luxury brand. Keep shopping
