First time poster here--hello all! I''m considering purchasing a cushion cut diamong for my GF and want to get second opinions about the two DeBeers diamonds I''m considering. Here are the specs:

1.Cushion Brilliant
GIA Cert., $22,000
Carat Weight: 1.65
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Depth%: 66.3%
Table %: 55%
Symmetry:Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to Slightly thick, faceted
Culet: Small
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.73-6.79-4.50
Cut Grade: N/A

2. Cushion Modified Brilliant
GIA Cert., $24,000
Carat Weight: 1.55
Color: E
Clarity: VVS2
Depth%: 63.9%
Table %: 59%
Symmetry:Excellent
Polish: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to thick, faceted
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.18-6.35-4.06
Cut Grade: N/A

I''ve read not to judge a cushion by its certificate; however, I just want to be sure none of the measurements stick out as odd. How do the measurements of these two look? Also, both diamonds seem a bit more expensive than diamonds of similar characterists from BlueNile and other online sites. Any thoughts on the price? Is the DeBeers diamond worth the premium, given that I''m not willing to purchase a diamond online?

Wish I could post pictures, but I forgot my camera.

Any and all feedback is welcome. Thanks very much in advance for your help!

numbers on cushions don''t really tell you anything. pics would be helpful and a aset image if you can get one. bottom line, your eyes should trump anything the paper says. the price seems really high to me. i''ve not seen a debeers cushion so I can''t say if the premium is worth it, but we''ve seen some incredible unbranded cushions in your size range that aren''t in that price range.

I would have to agree, those prices seem really high!

I presonally wouldn't pay for Ex. polish and Ex. Sym. , I think VG is more than acceptable. But, as you will find with these stones, it's all about inventory and what's available. The more specific you get the harder it could be to find, especially if you are leaning towards the cushion brilliant and not the modified.

My advice as you have probably read numerous time, CALL MARK T. !

Can someone explain:

cushion briliant

cushion modified?

Thanks

Oh, sounds way too high. Try contacting Good Old Gold, excellent stones, excellent policies, excellent people.

My quick thoughts are...
The numbers look fine... ie: table, depth
The prices seem really high, but I did not do a search yet
Two very different looks of a cushion.
A cushion Modified will tend to have that more crushed ice look. A cushion brilliant with have big chunky facets. You need to decide which you prefer, and if you prefer chunky, then how chunky.

This is a good thread with a few pics...
This is a thread that has some decent pics of the one I just purchased from Mark at ERD. This would be considered a very chunky stone, which is considered an antique cushion (although this is a newly cut one).

I suggest you look around a little and decide which look you really prefer, and then let us know~!

The prices are very high.

Hi there,
Ditto everyone else''s advice here. The measurements aren''t the least bit alarming, but the prices certainly are. I can fully understand your hesitation to purchase something as precious as a diamond on-line, but would you consider a little trip to NYC to visit Mark Turnowski at Engagement Rings Direct and Long Island to visit Jon at Good Old Gold? If you called them and told them your specifications, they could call in some stones for you to look at. You would have the best possible service, a fantastic cushion and a way better price to boot! Just a suggestion. After talking to Mark and Jon, you''ll know why they come so highly recommended on this forum.
