Hi PSers

Just gathering some thoughts on a single vs double halo for a .60 RB

I am referring to the Harry Winston style and Tiffany Soleste style rings.

Plain shank vs Pave shank.

My concern is having the center stone dwarfed by the halo instead of enhancing the stone. I want to look at the ring and be amazed at how beautiful the whole is. Not notice how small the center is. Lol

Thoughts? I like polls so I am adding a poll:)

I am always open to other suggestions.

I'm a 5.75 and realize I am not looking for something over the top. Just beautiful and balanced on my finger. That doesn't scream attention and yet gets noticed and appreciated sweetly. I don't want "that's cute". Lol

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

Wanted to also ask if you thought a cushion double halo would make the ring look more dynamic with the RB. If single I would want round with round for sure.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

If you are concerned about making the center stone look smaller, I would not double halo in an effort to beef up the ring. Personally, I'd single halo or use the money towards a bigger solitaire.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

There are two issues here. If you ever think you can upgrade to a larger stone, I wouldn't spend much on a halo setting at this point. Wait and get the center diamond you think you'll keep for years and then buy your dream setting.

However, if you plan to keep the .60 for a few years, I much prefer a single halo. I do think double would overwhelm that size stone. Then when you upgrade the center stone, you can put a colored stone in the original halo setting.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

I only like double halos on smaller stones if recent we stone is colored. Blue sapphire, yellow diamond... You know. Also I oby like double halos with pave bands.

My choice would be an airline halo, maybe with larger stone in the halo. I'll post a pic in a sec to explain what I mean.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

Like this. Either all pave or 4 larger stones like this. Maybe 15 pointers or so. Someone I'm sure could figure out the ratio.

Or this one without larger stones.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

At this size center stone I would rather a three stone ring for an ER than a double halo. I actually have a three stone RHR with a .7 center and .35 each sides that are bezel set, I have complete finger coverage for a size 6 finger.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

How about the best of both worlds and a halo 3 stone like Laila's beautiful ring? Love this look.

I'm also really liking the idea of a single halo in a cushion shape.

That's a great look! Reminds me of the three stone Ritani Endless Love!

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

Well I have a Soleste inspired double halo, so I am slightly biased, but I vote double halo!

Junebug, thanks for posting my ring! :wavey:

^ Lauren's ring, Whiteflash ACA, .52ct I SI1 in a Lord of Gem Rings halo. That is a smaller center than yours. But the bezel around it and the proportions of the halo really bulk it up and enhance it, without taking attention away from it. I'm another one who likes the Ritani Endledd Love, and Daniel K "Empress" and early Leon Mege halos the best. All of those harken back to the Art Deco originals and are quite, um, bold. :D

Daniel K Empress is the other ring pictured.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

I knew when I posted the bigger stone option in the poll most would opt for that. I am just confused. I like all the bezeled halo suggestions with and without airline. Does that mean that most of you don't like the idea of a delicate halo that seemlessly connects with the stone? Ala VC. You would prefer a more distinct seperate line before the halo?

Laila. I do like your new rings for sure. Out of the two styles I prefer your soleste. I need to go look at those again right now.

Part of the confusion is my own dh. He doesn't want me to have a big ring. Like a 1 carat double halo would be over the top for him on me. I pushed and got down to the bottom of it in a recent conversation. It's almost a wierd thing with him. I know I should get what I like but... I don't want him rolling his eyes when he sees me staring at my rings. It's not the dollar amount as much as the look although budget is important. I mean he was ready to purchase this over priced beautiful diamond band at Tiffany but it was low key and understated. I understand as he is in the public eye and does a lot of charity work. There is also a general stigma...

So this threw me off. I am now really confused.

I jumped on a great .60 solitaire by a generous PSer thinking it's smaller and a great stone maybe I can do something great with it and now just exploring options.

(I didn't say this before but people around me made a really big deal about my .80 ACA that I returned. It bothered me bigtime. At the same time I wasn't 100% pleased with it so returning it had more to do with that but if be lying if I said it didn't bother me. It definitely involved tears. And I was worried about it being a K... Lol that was the least of my issues)

and the stats of the.60 I definitely could not do in a larger stone. I would have to come down for sure.

I really like this and I am surprised its a .52 I wish there was a hand shot just for perspective. Surprised its a lord of the gems setting too.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

Hopefully I'm not scaring anyone away with my many posts. Lol.

Just adding that I didn't realize how OCD I am. I need everything to be right. If it's a bezel it needs to be a perfectly executed bezel. If there are going to be prongs they need to be even and symmetrical. If there are some creative lines like a trellis or shared prong or pave it needs to be even and consistent. So I am starting to feel like I need to consider more refined makers of these settings. I have seen too many wonky bezels, prongs, rings and settings. It makes it hard for me to enjoy. I think PS has ruined me in this way. This also have me the smaller center nicer setting idea.

Do you think there is a better center size to consider for the halos that I am considering? If it were a .75 -.85 center would there be less hesitation in suggestion these styles?

It sounds like the blinginess of a halo might not be the right style for you if you are dealing with these issues.

Ok, I'm a little confused - are you saying you felt the .8 stone was too big? Because now it seems like you're trying to enhance the size of your stone, when you had already had a larger one! I think people (myself included) are recommending styles that will maximize finger coverage. There is nothing with getting a smaller, delicate halo if that is what you would really like. A 3 stone would look pretty too. Here is yoshiy's lovely delicate halo, .55 diamond. What, in your heart of hearts, would make you happy?

Hi junebug! I love the .80. I thought it was a great size and felt I could have even gone a little bigger. There was something else off with it. Drove me crazy so I returned it even after they fixed the setting problems. BUT in addition to that, some people I care about around me didn't have very nice things to say and that did bother me. It took me by surprise for sure since .80 is not that big at all.

You had it right I would be trying to expand the presence of the smaller stone. Hence this thread.

What this thread is really revealing to me is I need to take a break from ring searching. That I have myself bouncing from one style to another and how confused I really am. Saying one minute I'll be happy with a blingy eternity band, to a three stone to a very we'll made halo. I think I have spent to much time on here researching myself into the ground with the possibilities. Ugh.

^ There's a picture of it on one finger, not whole hand. Probably the outer diameter is 1cm (10mm) or so. 10-12mm outer diameter on a halo setting like that is what I saw a lot when I was looking at semi-mounts. I suppose it could be a bit smaller than that.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

The ritani endless love like my pear had was amazingly well made and I think would be perfect for you. It had a shank tht was so minimalist it would stack perfectly with your current set, and the bezel halo was so delicate looking yet so sturdy.

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

Never a fan of double halo, as it just look too "busy" to me personally.

DK :))

Thanks hathalove, I gotcha! That's a shame people said mean things to you about your ring. I think all the styles in this thread will work really well to give you finger coverage, but I'm sensing you're just not sure about them. I know the feeling of being totally confused lol! There are so many possibilities it can be hard to make that final decision. The more you try to decide, the more confused you get!

I wouldn't take a total break from ring searching, but it sounds like you just need to step back and take the pressure off yourself. Give yourself some time to just think about what you'd really like to see when you look down on your finger.

Opinions can be very helpful, but sometimes they can also confuse, and in the end you'll be wearing this ring, not us! Take a little time to think about the look you want. FWIW, I think a double halo would be pretty, although it might be a bit too blingy for you, just going by some of your comments - I also love the Ritani endless love ring, IMO it is a nice mix of vintage and modern and has a classic, understated look but will give your diamond a "boost".

Re: What do you think of a .60 center in a single halo vs do

So are you considering a bigger stone? It's interesting that saving your $$$ for one is the most popular reply to your survey. :)

I considered a halo for my 0.75, but I have yet to act on it. Part of me wants instant gratification, and part of me wants a bigger stone. So I'm putting off a decision until I decide what I really want. fwiw.
