Here are the stats for the diamond I am currently looking at. I am looking for something with an excellent cut for a reasonable price. The Gemologist at the B&M went through 6 stones with me and and she recommended this one for me. I was wondering if the price for this diamond is too much for what it entails = 7100$. Also, how well does it perform. I really like the A. Jaffe setting so my hands are kind of tied. Not really sure what to do next. I only have a couple weeks left to add further stress to the situation.

Diamond Specs

Round Brilliant
Measurement = 6.82x6.86x4.17
Carat Weight = 1.20
Color = H
Clarity = SI1
Cut Grade = EX

Polish = EX
Symmetry = VG
Fluroescence = None

Table = 60%
Depth = 61%
Girdle = Thin to Slightly Thick
Crown Percentage = 14.0%
Crown Angle = 34.5
Pavillion Percentage = 43.5%
Pavillion Angle = 41.0
Cutlet = None

The diamond has potential from the basic info given but without images we can''t really judge it properly. I would compare it to some with smaller tables such as AGS0 Peerless or Hearts on Fire to see which type you prefer.

After searching the PS vendors, I felt that the price was kind of steep even after they gave me friends and family discount. (I know the rep). I just want to ensure I am getting the best value possible for this big purchase.

Stone Cold: Thank you for the website, I checked there settings but unfortunetly they did not list the one I was looking at. Maybe they can order it in then.

Also, I put all the figures in the HCA and I received a grade of 2.6. Know will I visually see a difference between say a 1.5 AGO and the 60/60 split at 2.6. I am assuming that the HCA advisor grades only AGO diamonds well (crown angle below 34.5 and pavillion angle 40.6-40.8

ya, they should be able to call in any setting from the jeweler.

For this stone, numbers are slightly off but may not be bad if the Idealscope image says otherwise. Price is a bit on the high side but considering it is a B&M store, not that bad.

Its the pavilion angle which is giving the HCA mainly, the crown angle would ideally be a bit shallower to balance it but no way to know without images as GIA round the numbers and according to whether they are rounded shallower or steeper - it could be fine or not so fine....

I talked to the B&M store today and they said that they can set another diamond for an additional fee. The setting I was looking at cost roughly 1600 and I am looking to go up to 9k max. I know that they said it would be an additional cost to set the diamond which I expected, however should I go this route or just go with what they offered? What have others done in the past? I am really confused about what my next move is.

I have attached the official GIA cert. AGA Grader has the diamond rated as Class 1B is that good? How accurate is AGA in grading diamonds

No report?

Hopefully it works this time. Would you guys say that this diamond is worth the 7100 USD price tag or should I order one on online and have them set it for an additional charge. I am pretty sure that the price of the setting will go up 300 dollars as well since they discounted it to me as a package. My total budget for the diamond is around 7000.

Hoost, what are the grade setting inclusions for this diamond please?

Lorelei:

By grade do you mean the inclusions. The diamonds lists Cloud, Feather and Natural however it is eye clean. I can probably do better then this right?

Yes thats what I meant, the reason being if SI1 grade is given because clouds are the main grade setter then you need to check carefully that these aren''t impacting performance. If the clouds are checked by an expert and aren''t in fact a problem and the diamond is eyeclean then thats fine.

I sat down with the Gemologist at a reputable B&M store and she went through several different diamonds with me. After reviewing diamonds rated with Ex cut that fit under my budget, she deemed this diamond to be the best. I have looked at the diamond through the microscope and felt it was very difficult to see inclusions on this diamond when compared to others she showed me. The diamond is definetly eye clean. I did move the diamondn around but not on the back of my hand under the table.

I guess I am starting to doubt all my findings in my pursuit to the perfect diamond/ value. I am not sure if I am paying to much for this diamond or if I should be looking for something better. Would there be a noticeable difference between this stone 2.6 HCA and Class 1B with say an AG0 stone. Would there be enough of a difference for me to visually see the difference and hands down determine that the AGO is the clear winner?

I think the best way to determine that is to try to view some AGS0 , try Jareds if there is one nearby and ask to see some AGS0 Peerless brand or Hearts on Fire if there is a dealer in your area.

For pricing it is usual for brick and mortar stores to be more expensive, if you do a search entering the same specs and search all diamonds, you will see the prices for online diamonds are considerably cheaper....
