I have been shopping with a friend who is also purchasing a stone a little bigger than I am. He found a few stones that are in his price range and I wanted to ask about the first one.

When comparing this stone to 2 or 3 other cherry picked diamonds, all eye clean and superb diamonds overall, this diamond looks excellent. My friend is wondering if the Fluorescense is something that may be helping the i-color, if he may be better off trying to find something that is a higher color graded stone without fluorescense even if it means sacrificing a little size.

Opinions?

faint florescense is fine, the dimensions i worry about, look for a better stone

Thanks for the response. What about the dimensions would you say worries you the most? Exactly what parts do you think are hurting this diamond?

It''s a hair deep. Also, the angles are at steep/deep, which means possible leakage. You say he''s seen this, has he taken it away from the jewelers lights to see what it looks like? Has he seen enough really well cut diamonds with great light performance to know if it''s not up to snuff?

If not, he may want to keep the crown angle at 35 or under, with no more than a 41 pavillion.

Also, faint fluorescence would have no impact on the stone, not enough to help the color.

I did in fact see this diamond both in a jewelers light, as well as a normal dim house light bulb and it shined very nicely. I also had it sitting side by side with 5+ other diamonds and it was still very impressive.

How does this compare to this stone?

Hello find45di2,. I am currently shopping for diamonds and am wondering if you could let me know who helped you in finding your stone.
I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Mario

I can honestly say that I have done plenty of home work, and have stopped in a ton of stores. I even shopped in the NY Diamond district. Nothing compared to the spread this personal diamond seller brought to the table. He did more educating than he did selling. As a matter of fact, he never once even asked me to buy or pressured in any way. Lastly, he owned diamonds and brought diamonds in from vendors. In the end he actually told me that the stone he brought in was the best bet for me, so he passed on the opportunity to sell me one of his own stones.

When shopping for a diamond it is all about trust. After seeing this guy's quality over many other stores, it was an easy choice of where I wanted to buy my diamond.
