What do you think about these pearl studs?

These are a pair of Mikimoto AAA Akoyas, 6-6.5 mm. What do the pearl experts think? I have also requested photos from Pearl Paradise. I am in the market for this smaller size as I like dainty earrings (even though I am tall with hulk shoulders.)

Is that Miki’s reserve “gem” quality?

Personally I see a clear difference in luster between the mikis and PP but it really depends on what is the most important factor to you. If you want to be money conscious and still own some akoya studs go with the PP ones.

The Mikimoto look more lustrous to my eyes but they’re all beautiful pearls. They’re all going to look gorgeous when worn in my opinion. I think it comes down to your personal preferences and priorities.

Impossible to compare between vendors - different lighting, different cameras, probably also different compression of the photos!

Pearl Paradise does have a very generous return policy, so you're in the US you can always buy them and look at them / compare in-person. If you're outside the US I'm not sure what the return policy and return situation is.

Can you get another photo of that Mikimoto pair? Is lustre matched IRL? Photo favours the bottom pearl but could 100% be angle/camera.

I received the Mikimoto pair today, I have decided to keep them. I don‘t have a super discerning eye, but they look good to me. (Please excuse my terrible, blurry cell phone pics!)
The first pic includes my Mikimoto pendant that my husband purchased for me a few years ago. We knew nothing about pearl quality, I just picked one that I liked.

Thank you! I won’t have many opportunities to wear these, but I think they are a staple jewelry piece.
Beautiful!

A few more photos. They definitely have a pink tone to them.

Thank you. The photos now show a bit of pink tone. I thought they were in silver tone only. Silver pink looks the best. :kiss2:

They came in fast!! They’re a very pretty colour, I like a little pink as well ❤️

I’m going to bring up one concern, only because I know that you paid a premium for Mikimoto AAA and IMO that entitles you to excellently-matched pearls if that’s what you want! I do see the luster mismatch that I had asked about in my first post in your photos, probably most visible in this one.

Totally okay if you don’t see it and don’t care. Or even if you do see it and don’t care. But I want to make sure you’re aware of it whilst you’re within exchange/return period.

This is the first thing I noticed as well and just imo wouldn’t accept this from mikimoto

Thanks, you guys have eagle eyes! My eyes can‘t see a difference when I look at them.

Often easier to see the difference in Photos . If you look at them you can see that one is a bit brighter, the lustre is sharper..there is a difference and I think for the money they should find you a different pair. Ask for a nice clear close photo and then you can see if they match.

No difference will be discernible when you wear them, but since these are Mikimoto and way-way-premium they are not the perfect match you are entitled to expect from the company.
One trick is to look at the shape and sharpness of the reflection of any light source.
