Up4bidz, welcome...

If you run price comparison from the front page, you can find similar EGL graded diamonds listed in the for $7,000 - $9,000. For comparison, similar diamonds with GIA reports can cost >$11,000.

Also pay attention whether it is EGL USA or overseas.

i would personally go ahead and pay the premium for the AGS 0 cut cert myself, however thats a personal preference. Blue nile has one that is not bad at all in the I range for 11k http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00996114&filter_id=0#grading_report

This one is exceptionally nice in that its table is a bit smaller and its depth is also a bit smaller, thus it actually has a slightly greater spread and you can purchase it knowing that it will certainly not be a dud based on the AGS cut grade standards, especially with those nice numbers.

I haven't done much research into EGL certifications but my understanding is that they are not quite as strict on color. That means that if you were paying for the EGL I it might? possibly? be the same as a GIA J, whereas you can get GIA cert diamonds with the same specs in J color for about 8.5. Thus I would say that stone is probably going to run about 7.5k-8k?

My personal preference though would be to get a slightly lighter stone with a better color. take for example this stone: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD01036058&filter_id=0
This one is 10k but it is a "G" color which will be a much more noticeable change to my eyes than the .5mm decrease in dimensions, though that decrease is certainly not insignificant either. There is also the possibility of going to VS2 and upping color and ct but I would hesitate to do that myself with such a large purchase, just for the sake of being sure even side views are totally eye clean (if the sides will be visible)

Or if you truly wanted to keep in that budget I would probably find one such as this http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD01062131&filter_id=0
Where I can be confident of the color and again, if in fact the EGL cert were off in color then it would make a fairly distinguishable difference to the eye, much more so i believe than the .5mm difference. However, in the case of "I' to H I think its reasonable to pick the .5mm larger diamond. (but I would pick the H over a J any day)

In the end there are a lot of options, but in my opinion an I color in a stone this size when you are spending this much money is not really the best route to take. Especially if the color might actually be a J, and ESPECIALLY if it is an E-ring. But I have discovered recently I am VERY color sensitive!:) so thats just my opinion, I am sure you will be happy with whatever you get, since you are taking the time to find out what you are getting before hand!

As you say you just bought this diamond, are you happy with it, or thinking of returning it? As PS says, you can compare the costs of similar quite easily. This diamond has been cut to decent proportions by the look of it and probably looks attractive, possibly a good choice if you are looking for a traditional '' fine make'' as a pose to a Superideal. Also as PS mentions, which branch of EGL is it, USA or overseas? It might be an idea to get an independant appraisal to make sure this diamond checks out for colour and clarity.

Also I wanted to welcome WHSR to PS

I am enjoying reading your posts!

Thank you every one for your input.
I paid $7000 so I think I got a good deal, from what you gays telling me. I bargained the price down to $7000 I almost head to twist the gays arm. I think getting a stone with EGL cert made sense for me coz I got a much bigger diamond for the money. I called GIA and they told me that they will certify it for $100 and it will take about 2 weeks.
GIA is stricter in grading, so the same will show lower color or clarity on GIA cert vs. EGL. That’s what makes a stone with a GIA cert cost more. Otherwise I or anyone can buy an EGL stone and then get GIA cert. sell it and make 2-3K.
Any way this 1.71 I/VS1 stone looks just as good to as an F rated one. I saved on a Cert. Maybe GIA will rate it a J/VS2, but I don’t think I could tell any difference.

i dont see on the cert if it is US EGL or what maybe someone can tell me.

One again thank you every one.

This would not happen IRL. Selling a diamond on one''s own is often very difficult and you can expect to get 50% of what you paid, sometimes less.

this is a pic of the rock one more pic this a cert.

I will set it in to a very plain 3mm 6 prang ring it is only $150. And if she don’t like it I am only out 150.
I think for a good size rock plain ring is the way to go. This stone don’t need any accessories it speaks for itself.

I got it on ebay from howardgoodman

i doint think that the pic does justice to this stone. it really looks much less yellow in person

this is the pics he used on ebay i dont know if it is even a pic of this stone but this is my cert.
do you think it will make vs1 by GIA from the looks of this cert?

It is almost impossible to tell about clarity from one of those diamond plots. You''d only be able to tell by asking a GIA or AGS jeweler with a microscope what they think it would grade as.

I''m glad the color is better in person! The nice cut probably helps the stone look brighter.

The color in the pics looks way off from an I, quite tinted. I''d get it appraised at the very least.

Well first I want to say, make sure the prongs are platinum! its a 7k purchase, dont risk 7k to save a couple hundred bucks.
Secondly, I am not bashing your diamond at all. If i did that you might come and bash my .60 ct goals and then Im going to be in debt the rest of my life for buying a 1.7 myself

It sounds like a good deal though, but it def. has some heavy color. I would say to at least take your girl out to see some colors, or somehow bring up the idea of diamond color (maybe watch a movie about diamonds, maybe "blood diamond" and comment on how white some diamond you see is and then discuss diamond color for a bit, as though it were common knowledge?) to make sure that she is ok with a yellow diamond. My brother bought one for his woman (before I learned about diamonds) and she started crying because the entire bottom was black and full of "dirt" as she called it. Of course he hadn't noticed anything.
In my mind it is way too yellow for me...but here I am staying up all night because I cant stand an H color...lol. I may not be the wisest person when it comes to colors. but still, just for example, if that is in fact a K, hopefully they wouldn't be more than 2 off, you can get K color VS1 GIA cert diamonds like this from whiteflash
http://www.whiteflash.com/round/Round-cut-diamond-135201.htm for 400 more, plus bc of this one's lesser depth % it is actually facing up a bit larger. But not much.

However, one other thing to consider, is it "actually" a VS2? if it were then there would be options such as these http://www.mondera.com/diamonds/product.asp?partno=528378&sourceID=BPVd0yuZ5sA-I.mxGWD2AMFnQXDzhEKFLQ

what this really means though is that at worst you made a good deal. and at best you made a great deal, as long as you will all be happy with it.
