Well, I’ve been looking around at diamonds for right hand rings and I’ve been trying to find the right Jubilee to make a right hand ring.Since inventory is so tight, I gave my wife a picture of the diamond and several pictures of setting suggestions as well.

So while I’m patiently waiting for the right Jubilee to come along, I started to look at settings. She wasn’t totally sold on any of the setting ideas, so we looked at fancy yellows as an alternative. Also spent the better part of Saturday at stores looking at stones and ideas.Well for the past week, it’s been back and forth between yellow versus “white” diamonds and settings. We’re going custom made so almost anything is possible for the setting.Right now, we’re no further ahead on the design and stone for that matter. I guess the backlog on Jubilees is not that bad after all!

So I thought I would canvas the group here for your thoughts and ideas since you guys seem to have so many good ideas.Today the Jubilee is favored…. Tomorrow??

Here’s what the fancy intense yellow would look like (courtesy of Scheiner)

Of course, here’s the Jubilee (courtesy of GOG)

I voted for the Jubilee with side stones (but am secretly loving answer "E").

I think that a ring with side stones is ideal for a right hand ring. More bling for your buck.

Or is that more buck for your bling

. I secretly know that answer E is the right one, but since that's always the case, I need to make something!

What is her favorite color? Yellow?

Of all gem colors, this is the least prefered overall... Obviously, if it has to be carbon, there is no much variety at hand (ok, they exist, but do not make a practical choice).

I changed my mind, but can't revote! lol Originally, the three stone with Jubilee center was my choice, but now, I think that since your wife already has a three stone ring on her left hand that it'd be more interesting to have the Jubilee on it's own with an ornate - minimally antique looking - setting that coordinates w/her three stone.

Good luck deciding.

Michelle

Well, I bet those who know me guessed what I voted for

YELLOW!!!!!!! I prefer white side stones with the yellow diamonds.

Of course the Jubilee is awesome- but if someone already has a white, then yellow makes an awesome right hand ring.

I guess AnA has some figures to back up the statement that yellow is the least favorite gem color- but I can tell you that quite a few women ( and men) seem to prefer yellow diamonds.

Just to show a yellow with a little more....zing than the one shown

The ring I've shown is a 2 ct Fancy Light Yellow with D/VVS radiant side stones

That wasn't my idea.... it came from some market report I am hoping to track down for ref. I didn't realise this could sound off here!

It just so happens that yelow beryl is cheaper than green and yellow sapphire than blue and other yellow gems seem to be the lest priced on whatever version of the traditional "precious" list. Maybe yellow diamonds fill the gap?
5.gif
Anyway, while the pricing of yellow in gem-matter is a clear case, the argument that yellow is not preffered among colors is simply absurd
sad.gif
- I guess my previous post might sound that way.

I am a bit intriguid that there is no non-diamond choice on the poll! But this is just a private puzzle, since I am not selling either...

I am not surprised a bit that yellow diamonds are the most popular among the colored ones - not only they have the strongest color, but also the best price!
1.gif

I picked jubilee with sidestones but want to specify that ruby or sapphire sides would be my pick over diamond sidestones.

I may be beated down by the Jubilee police, but I think a fancy, strong yellow diamond ring makes a fantastic right hand ring or male P.Diddy bling.

However, non-lab fancy colored diamonds are expensive aren't they? Lab grown pinks and blues are hard to come by in decent sizes too I think.

I think a right hand ring, with a single large white diamond (or even with sidestones) looks an aweful lot like an e-ring. Many of the RH rings that are being marketed consist of smaller diamonds and even have more of a vertical profile to them.

Ahhh, my wise young friend VH (don’t ask me how I know) there in lies the dilemma. The Jubilee does look a bit an e-ring unless I do something interesting and different with the setting. She doesn’t like the look of the vertical (no offense) profile rings or the Daniel Kay style. So… it’s some kind unique setting with a Jubilee and some accent stones, diamonds or gemstones or the fancy yellow.Yes the fancy yellow is expensive, especially fancy intense, but what they h***, she married me so she’s worth it.We looked at some loose, and the fancy lights and fancy yellow grade color just didn’t do it.

Ana,

No gemstones on the poll because she doesn’t really like blue sapphires, even though I do.She likes purple.I won’t put a $20 piece of quartz in a custom made setting and I’ve haven’t found a violet sapphire that we like, and also I’m partial to diamonds.

So…. you can see that this has required a lot of thought and work. That’s why I need your input!

What if you mounted the Jub diagonally, like how the original flanders was intended?

Lessee if I got that pic here somewhere...

I see... actually I understand quite well, 'cause I love the color too. Between blue and purple is usually tough choice, and there is plenty of ametyst in this house! I definitely think you should get to see a purple sapphire for consideration, althought the quartz is hard to beat in the color department!

If I think it twice, there barely is any purple gem material (bar the occasional sapphire and spinel) - one more argument to look for the one fortunate exception

This, 'cause I am not partial to diamonds, that is...

Boy was I tempted to vote for the "don't be stupid" answer. But then I figured it didn't help you at all -- you should already know that one.

I vote for colored on the right hand. I saw a three stone ring wiht pink center and white sides yesterday that was beautiful! (it was fake, of course, but a great look). I like the colored center with white side stones. Very distinctive, not e-ring looking. The jubilee is beautiful, but maybe that should be a pendant!

Yes, I actually showed her a pic of a square princess diagonally in a half bezel setting. Looks almost like tension set. I also said we could channel set some princess stones in the side of the ring .... still thinking , doesn't like channel set stones

lop,

Pendant idea won't work. I just turned the old 1 C E-ring into a pendant. Can't really wear the new A-ring and E-ring at the same time and the E-ring setting was getting long in the tooth. (BTW, bought earrings last year)

Hmmm, maybe I should just forget it and buy myself something

.... Just kidding

Over 200 views and only 20 some votes. Turn out's worse than a municipal election!

Boy noobie, you're a catch! Sounds like the "diamond fairy" is alive and well at your house!

I still vote for the yellow center. You can always find an occasion for a jubilee something

.

Hmmm... so she likes purple, huh??

I know both of you (VH *and* Noobie) have cursed me for being a

Behold a few purple diamonds...

.. problem is I have no idea where you can even get these..

Hey Kat- there are NO natural diamonds that look like the purple stones you've shown us- though they are quite pretty.

Noobie- a nice Fancy Intense Yellow with a GIA report will likely cost about as much as a collection quality "Jubilee" of comprable size.

Fancy Yellow, and Fancy Light yellow are generally less than colllection quality white diamonds.

Personally, I do not feel that looking at loose Fancy Light , or Fancy Yellow is productive- I'm not saying you should not go for intense if that's what you want- but I do feel that the stones MUST be seen in rings to get the proper idea.

After having built hundreds and hundreds of these rings, I can tell you from experience that it's very hard to gauge how the stone will look set, till the ring is done.

Doh... That's (possibly!) treated diamond then.
sad.gif

Sorry folks.. my mistake. It is pretty, though.

Noobie, your wife doesn't like a bypass design?
Like this?
righthand.jpg

Hmmm... I think we've been through this before..
rolleyes.gif

I think that for a right hand ring, a fancy yellow with little diamonds surrounding it (ala Ritani's Endless Love) would be gorgeous. That's what I would vote for!

What were they thinking with those purple pics? If the color is possible, Asprey has them all... I would not expect zappeed diamonds without (or with) disclosure from this jeweler, and purple is their color. The deep pink, and grayinsh purple I know of never had that saturation ! But what do I know?
eek.gif
One would never think of true red and green diamonds either until the next "Magnificent Jewels" auction proves assumptions wrong...

Hm... here's another portrait of another piece from the same jeweler ( maybe the same square? - since there just aren't that many diamodns graded "fancy purple" anyway) and the color seems much more recognizable, for better or worse.
With this rather uninspiring grayish note in mind I would not have run the search on "purple diamonds" at all. Interesting story though

Noobie --
The reason I even mentioned purple diamonds is because I thought they'd make for interesting pave or melee side stones for your ring. Just a thought.

AnA --
Well.. I'd figure diamonds in Asprey's collection is legit, too.. but (based on the color of the picture) it does seem like the diamonds have super intense color that almost unreal. Hmmm...

On a search, I did found this purple diamond to be more plausible, however.
newest%20purple.jpg

Wow Kat, those purple diamonds are beautiful, but oh so expensive. Let's see house or diamond.... house, no wait diamond
2.gif

And yes, she's starting to drive me nuts. I'll check on the bypass. I though I had it nailed with the split ring though.

Daisy, We looked at the Ritani with pave around the stone... no go
15.gif

David, You're the expert on this, but those yellow stones looked so washed out loose. The light yelllow grade grade was like why bother. But I suppose they will look better set.

lop, the diamond fairy took a very long vacation in the early years. She never asked for a single piece of jewelry in all that time. Just making up for lost time.

Please keep those ideas coming, I need all the help I can get. If you hadn't already noticed... Or could be I'm beyond help
6.gif

How about a fancy intense Jubilee
2.gif

I voted the last option, since the diamond fairy is well and truly alive in your heart, you can always get the Jubilee in a gorgeous (minimally, as MC says
2.gif
) antique now and the fancy diamond yellow with side stones later!
11.gif
It shouldnt have to be a choice between one or the other righT!
naughty.gif

Ummmm, I think I'm going to change my answer
twirl.gif
. Originally, I thought that a having a fancy yellow diamond would be different and be better fit for the right hand. But after some thinking, I realize that one hand with a white diamond and one hand with a yellow diamond would clash and be totally not feng shui. IMHO, to harmonously balance both hands, its more classy (sp?) to go with white diamonds on both hands or fancy yellow diamonds on both hands and not mix and match. So count me for the Jubilee.

Thanks so much everyone for your input. The vote was actually reasonably close between the yellow and the Jubilee! No wonder we’re vacillating back and forth.Although I actually thought I was going to get more “Don’t be so stupid” votes … only two.

Well after discussion and debate, I think we’ve reached a decision (I discussed and debated, she decided).I think tomatoe’s idea is the best.Jubilee now, fancy yellow next year!

Now that it’s narrowed down we just need to decide on setting and side stones. The easy part.

2.gif
David, if you read this, being the resident fancy yellow diamond expert, how easy is it to find matching fancy yellow trapezoids or trillions in the 15 to 20 point range?

AnA:That U20 purple sapphire is beautiful.I checked, it’s $3,200.Do you have any idea if that’s reasonable?Maybe some purple sides?

Thanks again everyone.

Noobie

Since I got the Jubilee set in my wife's anniv/e-upgrade I am looking for a nice colored diamond for a right hand ring. I love some of the hues of pink, and now having seen a couple it is very cool to see the sparkle of a diamond in a different color. The jubilee ring puts all of her other jewelry to shame so having something else very nice would give it balance. Also, I have two daughters so I feel it is important to have a special heirloom for both of them.

Word of caution, I heard from Jon and Cary that there is quite a waiting list for Jubilee's and the pipeline is relatively limited.

Best of luck
