What do we think about cologne for men?

I don't think I could wear it because I don't like even chemical shampoo. But I remember when I was a teenager that it was a very "adult" thing. The other thread about scents made me think I'd ask you ladies (mostly) what you think about cologne for men?

It must be subtle or it's repulsive. You should be shoulder to shoulder before you can smell it.

How funny.
That's exactly how I feel about a woman wearing a fragrance.

Depends on the kind of cologne but for the most part I love it on men. Anytime I'm walking in a mall or another public area and get a nice whiff of a man wearing nice smelling cologne....

I like it! Dh doesn't wear it all the time, but I like when he does.

Yeah, should apply to any body odor on any person! Scent is an intimate thing so you shouldn't go around imposing it on strangers!

I like it on men. But not the cheapish fake scents.

Sometimes when I'm at home I'll put a ton on- because I can :) but if I am going to a place where I know I'll be in direct contact with people, or holding a baby, around elderly people... or stuff like that, I will either not wear any perfume, but put it on quite a while before I leave so that the scent is a little calmer.

I will admit though, regardless of price, I used to have a thing for armani acqua di gio, but body chemistry plays such a roll in how colognes and perfumes react on your skin that it doesn't always smell great. DH can not wear this scent- it smells weird on him

Not a fan, and luckily neither is my husband.

I thought of something else. I'm glad for my discretionary budget I don't like it. I like spending my money on things I need like toothpaste.

My thoughts exactly. I don't like to smell any fragrance from across a room, on a man or a woman. I prefer not to smell any at all, if I'm honest. Total double standard, because I do wear some myself.

I've tried to like perfume on me, but I don't. It makes me gag. I don't like cologne on men either, so you can say that I just don't like strong scents on people. I like the smell of clean.

LOVE it! I love a guy that wears a good cologne. You shouldn't be able to smell it from far away, but there is nothing better than brushing by a guy and smelling something wonderful. I know one guy that I don't find all that attractive, but we were out with a group of people and somebody bumped me into him and he smelled heavenly. I always gave him a second look after that. There's just something about a guy wearing cologne that I'm a total sucker for.

Totally with kelpie on this one. I don't like to be bombarded with scent on a man or a woman.

I love it when it's good! I really like the Tim McGraw scents. Aeropostale has one that is to .... die....for. Lacoste's scents are nice as well.

I think if done correctly, it's intoxicating.

Yes, just a hint is lovely (especially on my DH). Cant stand when anyone takes a bath in it!

HI:

I love them and buy them all the time for my DH. Mostly Creed, as thees are his favs.

cheers--Sharon

I like it. If it's a scent I like. If it gives me the scrunchy face then I don't care how subtle it is, it's still stinky. I used to tick my brother off when we lived at home b/c I'd use his cologne before school. Catch little whiffs here and there thru the day and I liked it.

Hi Danny! :wavey:

I luuuuvv a good scent on DH!

It gives me a good excuse to hug him longer.

I got him the Sephora men's cologne sampler for Xmas, and I'm enjoying it. He could care less, his goal is just to cover any offensive BO, but that's about as far as he goes with it. So, really, I got the sampler for me. :naughty:

I think this sampler is genius: It's kind of like a gift card with a bunch of samples attached. You pay $50, they send you a ton of little sample spray bottles in a nice box (plus there's some kind of scrub but he'll never use that), but the box also has a voucher so you can trade in for a full size cologne of your choice. You can try the different scents, see which one you like over a period of time, and then get the full size of your favorite. If you ever decide to try some cologne, this might be the way to go.

Yesterday was Dolce and Gabbana day, and today is Calvin Klein day! :appl:

I am (obviously) too easily pleased . . .

Love it =) as long as its not over-applied of course!! if you have sensitive skin though you'll have to be very careful...

When i was a young lass, i would occasionally walk through the ground-floor men's department of a large department store in the city and would literally swoon at the smell of all the colognes

Hi iLander! :wavey:

I'm glad you're having fun with it!

I hope you had a great Christmas!

I can't even tell you how delicious it is when I walk into the bathroom after my husband gets ready for the day and it smells like his cologne. Um...yum! Sometimes I just enjoy wrapping my arms around him and inhaling. He smells really good.

It's sexy, bottom line.

Update: Calvin Klein Euphoria is only getting a 6 rating from me. After a few hours, it smells like Irish Spring! D and G is winning at 8.9.

DS didn't come, but I was ready for that. Still really bothers my DH. He's a really "family first" kind of guy. I'm trying hard to keep him cheered. 8)

But, I made out like a bandit, as can be seen in the pearls sub-forum.

Another Creed fan here :wavey:

I don't want to smell anybody from across the room. DH doesn't wear any cologne and I don't want him to. It's repulsive when I stand too close to FIL and then smell like him. And it irks me that Lily smells like him after he holds her. I feel the same way about women's perfume.

SS, my FIL is the same exact way! Ugh his cologne is so gross to begin with and he bathes in it. When my daughter visits them, every part of her smells like his cologne :knockout:

In general though, I love when a man smells good. FI does the spray and walk into trick with his cologne which gives him just a subtle scent that I love!

FI is allergic to most scents, as am I. I do love the ingering scents of the soap and shampoo on him when he's freshly bathed though.
I rely on the scent of my shampoo and deoderant to make me smell pretty enough.

I think FI naturally smells good, even when he's not wearing any scent.

Being trapped on public transit when another passenger is coated in perfume/cologn (and often it is cheap and stale) is the worst. It make me nauseous.

I do like noticing a subtle scent on a stranger - often from light touch of a nicely scented moisturiser.

This - I love when DH wears his stuff it is subtle but it smells like man but for cologne/perfume to work for me the person initially has to smell of CLEAN nothing worse then stale smell or sweat smell covered in scent *GAG*

Have you noticed how many people smell like those powerful fabric softener sheets?
