I''ve read ASET tutorials, and know that ASETs are better than IS images for fancy cut stones, but I''ve yet to see ASET pictures that were deemed ''this is a really good pear'' and ''this is a really bad pear''. Can any experts enlighten me? We''re having this discussion in another thread and I thought this might catch someone''s attention. Thanks!!

As a co-conspirator for this thread, I second this request!!

Good memory Chrono. I''m surprised I didn''t remember it, considering Gary''s most descriptive comments.

Thanks Chrono, I appear to have missed both of those threads!!!

The thing is...the reason I'd like to be shown a really good pear ASET is because I have YET to see one for a pear that has a lot of red, or ANY BLUE in it. At all. I know red and blue is good but I have ONLY seen images with a preponderance of green, with some red and white. I've seen enough pear IS images to have opinions on those, but all I keep reading is that ASETs are better than IS images for fancies. If that's the case, then somebody please show me a good one for a pear!!!!!! Pretty please!!!!

I agree with you FG, ASETs are for fancies, yet I haven''t seen any blues in pears. Just green and red. I wonder why? Maybe it just isn''t possible in pear?

Oh, that makes me feel better FG - in one of those threads above Garry said you want more blue/red for sparkliness and I don''t have any blue in mine and is just like you described...mostly green with some red and white. But I would suspect at least SOME of these pears sparkle and reflect light well. Not all the pears posted on PS can be duds, right?

FG - what did your aset look like? How does it perform in person?

I''ve been seduced by pears and it will prbably be my next diamond...someday! So I am interested in learning more about the best performance you can get from a pear.

I''d like to see more info about this too. I''ve been seduced by pear shape & it will probably be my next diamond...someday!

Arrgh - sorry for the double reply. The evil error message got me!

I don''t have an ASET or IS on my pear - it was bought pre-PS. Maybe someday if I ever get it remounted I''ll have to get it done.

Gothgirl has a pear thread going in SMTR, and the current ASET has a tad of blue in it, and in looking back at her first pear ASET, it did too (maybe a smidge more?)

Her first ASET had a few flecks of blue, but the second has blue in what I would call ''almost'' arrows in the bowtie region. That''s the closest I''ve seen to blue in a pear ASET at all.

I wish Gary would post a picture already. Or simulate one!

I recall a Singaporean who purchased a large pear from Whiteflash very recently. It was a very fat stone with an Idealscope and ASET picture. Gary also gave his input there. Off to look for that thread...

Not to nitpick, but I'd say ONE almost blue arrow maybe.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess flecks might be better. I know blue adds scint, so wouldn't it be better spread out?

Gary, where is ya??

Don't misunderstand - I'm talking rorschach inkblot "those could be" arrows, not real H&A arrows.

*bump*

I''m beginning to take the experts'' reticence as evidence that no one knows what a really good pear ASET should look like?!?!

*last bump* since I see Garry has been posting lately...

One last bump from me too - Garry please come shed some light!!
