What do all you ladies (and men) use for smooth hands?

Hi

My hands are not only dry, but have always been really wrinkly even as a teenager. I am assuming that is partly due to the dryness....
What are good remedies for this? Any treatments better than others?

I love the Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector before bed or other times when a little greasiness for about 10-15 minutes doesn't matter. It's great to rub on cuticles, too. It's a little expensive, but only a smidgen is required per application, so it lasts a long time.

During the day, I like Aveeno Daily Moisturizing or Curel Ultra Healing Intensive Moisture lotion.

Right before bed, soak your hands in warm water, slather on a heavy-duty moisturizer or petroleum jelly, and put on gloves (cheap cotton ones work well). Your hands should be supple when you wake up in the morning. Works for cracked ankles, too.

Thanks guys! :) i will try both! I swear my hands are like pieces of dry, cracked leather!

I really like Cetaphil lotion. I love that it's not greasy and it works very well.

HI:

Assuming you don't have any derm condition...are you drinnking enough water and eating a balanced diet? Taking fish oils? What we put on topically is just as important as what we consume.....

cheers--Sharon

Very good point, Sharon!

Put some olive oil in a jar. Add cane sugar till its wet but not over oily. Wet hands. Put mixture on hands and scrub. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Cheap and fabulous!

I have VERY soft hands and feet. People doing my mani & pedi, esp my pedi, are always commenting on how soft they are. I've never had my feet scrubbed for instance.

I make sure to moisturise my hands and feet every single time I wash them. I carry a tube of moisturiser (whichever that is) in my handbag and I put some on as soon as I wash and dry my hands. I also make sure to rinse all soap or cleansing products from my skin whenever I wash as any soap residue would dry your skin out.

Any moisturiser would do, if you are fastidious about moisturising your hands and feet every time. However, my personal fave is the Body Shop Olive Oil Butter, in a big green tub, and sometimes I would use Vaseline on top of the moisturiser.

The key is therefore moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

ETA: Also, make sure you wear gloves when doing housework, particularly dish-washing and gardening if you do it.

I do the same thing! DH says I'm addicted to lotion because I have to put it on my hands after I wash them. I also put lotion on my entire body after every shower, my skin doesn't feel right if I don't. The hand lotion that I use in the winter (when my skin really needs it) is Vaseline Deep Moisture hand cream. It works great and it's only $2 at Meijer or Target  In the warmer months, I like Aveeno lotion, its not as thick...

I use what my dermatologist recommends: Eucerin products. I use the Eucerin Aquaphor on my lips and severe dry spots on my hands. It goes on like vaseline at first, but very quickly soaks in and is the only thing that actually cures my dry patches. I have the cream, which is extremely thick, to use on my feet and hands. There is a lotion too, but I haven't tried that. It's available at Shopper's (on sale right now). It's fragrance free. I use it at bedtime and as needed (which isn't much at all now!) during the day. Bedtime is best. It's a bit oily feeling at first but it does soak in.

I use Garnier Hand Repair. I don't know if you can get it where you are (i'm in the UK). Its the only thing that works on my hands. I have OCD and wash my hands many times through the day. They end up very dry and cracked but a few goes of this cream clears it up.

Just back from the mall on a sunday afternoon... what a horror show THAT was... but bought this from The Body shop - Almond Hand and Nail cream. I also bought the Hemp Hand Protector for extra dry skin. Both feel a bit greasy so far... but time will tell!

I use the Whole Foods version of this and it's great. I don't find it greasy at all and it absorbs quickly. We have a bottle next to the sink in the kitchen so we can apply liberally after finishing meal prep or dish washing!
