Googled it and it looks like similar questions have been posted here before. Here's one:

Hope that helps, since I have no expertise to offer ;)

I saw that thread too, but this is a round diamond. I was just wondering if this particular stone is a branded cut. It's really interesting looking.

it is a Star 129.

Thanks! Just the info I was looking for. This particular stone seems like a good deal for a Star 129. Too bad I can't justify this purchase.

Julie, does it mean there are 129 facets?

probably. Would be bizarre to name it so and then have a different number of facets.

Sure looks like a star129, and yes that would be a 129 facet branded modified round brilliant. I own one now, and have owned several. They're awesome performers. I wonder how they happened upon that, probably a trade-in unless they're now Star129 dealers. That is an original Star129 cut based on the girdle inscription. Star Diamond Group doesn't own Star129 anymore IIRC so only the ones they cut have SDG on the girdle. The new ones have STAR129-xxxx whatever the number is. When the new cutters took over the cut parameters slightly changed. I think this one looks great, despite the larger table than I'd prefer, though it's not the best VS2 I've ever seen, it may still be eye clean.

Oooh, do you have any real life pictures of the ring that you can share? I'm dying to see hand shots and real life shots of how it looks!

An enormous amount.... Mostly of my current one, obviously. This one is probably the best of the best that I've seen, and will be damn hard to give up if I ever upgrade. This is the best cut of them all. Jon was so not kidding. I could tell in pics it was good, but he wasn't kidding that it was INSANE in person. It blew my original away. At first I think I was having mental blocks with it bec I really did want to compare it all to my original, and I missed my original. But unless that one was going to mysteriously come back from that jerk who stole it....Actually this one really won my heart. I love it. I picked that original one, and it was great, but this one...this one...I love.

Link to my current stone on GOG's site (which I can't believe still works!):

Here's a few shots Matt at GOG took for me before this one got sent (I think this is my current...might be the 1.13 or the 1.18... I had a few before the 1.15!)

Eeeee, so unique! It's probably good I don't have one because i'll spend 10 hours a day staring at it.

These are little fireballs. They're essentially a superideal that was "sliced and diced" on the pavilion, increasing the pav facet count to 72. It changes the way the light return is quite considerably. It's something that's hard to see in pics and videos honestly, because a lot of it is not captured by a lens very well...they're pretty damn amazing in person. The fire of each facet is smaller since each facet is smaller, but there's more of it, since there's more planes to get fire from. The brightness and whiteness overall is also significantly better as well. Some people try to liken them to crushed ice appearances, but that's not at all accurate. Im sure there are duds in the bunch--I've seen a few--but I have yet to see one that looks anything like "crushed ice".

I LOVE the modified cuts. I think if I ever left this cut it would be for an Octavia or Crisscut or something. I like the faceting patterns a lot.

That is SO gorgeous, Ame!!! I am guessing that stone at JA was a trade-in from somewhere, too, since they are connected to a diamond supplier.

Thanks!!!

It would have to have been a trade-in. Another give away that it's an older one (and a trade in) is the clarity. Annoyingly, they don't buy and cut higher clarity rough anymore. They do SI only now, which is super annoying, unless it's a custom cut which they will do if you want it. So if I wanted an upgrade, I could find an old cut from a tradein within the system or have a custom cut to my specs that would be a little pricier.

Star129 is pretty controlled on their supply, they only go through their dealers and have so many in a region IIRC. I know Star Diamond Group before them was even tighter on that. They had a mile-radius on the distance between jewelers that sold them so that there was only like one per market. I recall at one point I emailed Jon because I was interested in studs to match and he was trying to become a dealer at the time (this was a long time ago) and there had been another within so many miles of his store so SDG wouldn't allow it. I think when SDG sold it or stopped being the siteholder or whatever, that loosened. We bought the original locally, and at the time they had just hit the market, and the guy we got it from was the only one for like 100 miles or something ridiculous. I know now there are two or three dealers in STL. I don't prefer two of them, one was the original seller and we don't prefer them for a lot of reasons, but the other one when we were looking for the replacement said something to me when I called like "do you know how much stones this size cost? And does your husband know you're looking for stones in this price range? Until he's involved in this, Im not planning to call any in since I think you should have his permission first to spend this kind of money". I was like "uh dude, you're an idiot".
