I received a picture of a diamond I''ve been looking at and am particularly interested in how well it will sparkle and return light. Can you tell that just by looking at a picture like this? It seems like the lighting conditions of the photo would dramatically impact its appearance. Any other thoughts based just on this photo?

In order to determine how well the diamond will perform it would be a much much better help if you had the numbers (angles, etc) of the stone. I wouldn''t buy it just based on that photo.

The numbers and angles performed well on the HCA calculator. Is that a better indicator of performance than seeing an actual picture like this one? Besides checking for inclusions, what is the value of this picture in terms of overall diamond performance?

Thanks!

You can tell by the photo that diamond has excellent symmetry. Generally you can also get an idea of its brilliance from photos like these too, but its good to check the proportions as well.

They go together.
The angles tell you what potential it has, the pictures tell you how well it was executed.

This one has excellent face up optical symmetry, a little painting on a couple upper girdles but nothing to worry about.
There is min leakage and the crown and pavilion angles work together and the lower girdles work with the crown height and table size.
The lower girdles are in an acceptable range for the combination.
Clarity is acceptable(trying to get a clarity grade off a picture is wrong)
You can ask JA for an IS image to confirm all of the above and make it easier for you to see.
What is the crown and pavilion angle off the grading report?
clarity and color?
size, weight and mm
Depth%
price?

Thank you for the replies. Here is the additional info:

1.44 H VVS2
GIA Excellent
7.28*7.23*4.44
Crown: 33.5
Pavilion: 40.8
Depth: 61.2
Table: 57

Price w/ pricescope discount is $8730.

Seems like a good price for a nice diamond, based on what I know from reading these boards. I just wish I could swap a slightly worse clarity for a better color grade.

Any insights would be great, thanks!

there are some awesome hunters here.
There might be options out there, otherwise that is a good one if not.
Are you in a hurry or is a day kewl?
What is your max budget?

Have you considered sticking with an H and lower clarity and going bigger?

I think one heart will be smaller (at 12:30).
Is it sold as a H&A?
Anyway, it looks very good!

yep it isn''t h&a but does have excellent face up optical symmetry.

Karl is correct, this is not being sold as H&A. I sent a request today for an IS imagine. I'll post that here when it arrives.

Thanks for all of the help.

Ideal-scope image came in today. Any thoughts on how this diamond will perform? The specs are:

1.44 H VVS2
GIA Excellent
7.28*7.23*4.44
Crown: 33.5
Pavilion: 40.8
Depth: 61.2
Table: 57

Looks good.

IScope looks very good.
Is the girdle slightly thick on this one?

IS looks good
Some minor painting but not enough to hurt anything.

Looks fine, nice image.
