Christmas is just 1 week away! My present to my FI just arrived today and I am so excited I cannot wait to give to him. I bought him an original watercolor (architectural landscape) that I remember him looking at when we went to a gallery exhibition a few months ago. I lucked out and they also included the frame .

What are you giving your SO and what do you hope to get in return?

We agreed to just exchange stockings, but I cheated and got him a photobook from snapfish filled with honeymoon pics! (They were having a promotion where they were free +shipping)

My favorite gift for him came from Red Envelope...they are metal collar stays with messages like

You''re so handsome
You make me laugh
You give great hugs
You smell irresistable
You have a big heart

They come in a cute little leather box. His work life sometimes requires shirts that use collar stays and he''s always loosing the plastic ones that come with the shirts.

HIS favorite gift from me will likely be the Wii system. Anyone have good game suggestions? I am so not up on the thing, but excited to start.

Having just gotten engaged, I''m not expecting much. In fact, he even said..."so this counts as your christmas gift too right?"

sigh...he''s not into gifts, but I am. I LOVE finding just the right things. Not a great match, but he manages and does pretty good at taking a hint.

We got each other a flat screen for Christmas this year. So no other gifts.

Although if I can get his lazy rear into the car dealership to pick out the car he wants, I may just have a box with keys waiting for him under the tree. But he always gives an excuse to go to the dealership.

We are so unsentimental sometimes and not big gift people

FI doesn''t even want anything, but since I''m getting an expensive chef''s knife I told him that he needs to find something of approximately equal value. Haha. I''m getting him an Xbox Live year subscription gift card because he may want to play online when we''ve finished playing everything together. Other than that, he can''t think of anything he wants

We just tend to buy things when we want/need them, so we''re both really hard to buy for. Plus, even though our money isn''t 100% combined yet, it still feels like anything we spend is spending "our" money. So if I want an expensive gift, it''s like I''m buying half of it with my own money and that makes me re-think wanting it. We''ll take it easy on the gifts this year and just put everything extra towards the wedding.

If you wanna find good games, go to a site like IGN.com and search for reviews for Wii and sort by the top games. If it got over a 9.0 it''s absolutely worth buying. I particularly love Legend of Zelda, MarioKart, and Super Mario Galaxy. Oh, and Rayman Raving Rabbids is hilarious. I loved the first one, hated the second, and haven''t played the third (it requires the balance board you get with Wii Fit and we don''t have that). So I''d recommend the first Rabbids game as something fun you can play together. Wii Fit is really popular. We decided it''s not something we would play often, but it might be perfect for you guys. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are always fun as well (and great for parties). Too bad Rock Band is so expensive!

I hope this helps! We tend to play a decent amount of video games let me know if you have any questions

We''re going to Portland for xmas so that''s our mutual xmas gift. It''s a mini-vacation. We also said no gifts this year since we''ve done the wedding and new furniture in the last couple of months.

Let''s see - DH got a bunch of clothes, including some nice sweaters, some designer jeans/pants, and some nice polo shirts.

I''m hoping for a really good-quality hair dryer (odd I know, but I''ve never really owned one).

Other than that, we are both getting "AG finally got a job offer" special gifts but I guess in a way those are both from me, to each of us
9.gif

We''re just going halves on a nintendo wii for each other and the wii fit. I cannot wait till we get it!

We went to a holiday-themed classical music concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and then we are giving each other a small gift. I got him a new pair of high-end ski gloves, and I believe he is getting me perfume. We have a wedding to pay for and a house and furniture to buy!

I got him a Tumi leather briefcase and I have no clue what he got me! I can''t wait! I love gifts, giving and receiving them!
31.gif

He is getting a peacoat (it is gorgeous!), a pizza stone, and a nice new suitcase with a couple travel books about Italy, our honeymoon destination.

I secretly wish I were getting something sparkly, but I think the next piece of jewelry I''ll get will be my wedding ring. FI never gave a girl jewelry until he gave me my beautiful ring . . . so I have some major work to do. He always gives very sweet and thoughtful gifts, though, so I''m very excited to see what he got me.

Zelda and Mario Galaxy are both suburb games, but they are 1 player. If you want to also play, MarioKart is the best, but I would also suggest Mario Party. And, I don''t have Rock Band on Wii, but we have it on the PS3 and it is TOTALLY WORTH it!

My FI is getting an iPhone.

I think I am getting him a panini press...

I found a rather random assortment of gifts...

His mother and I went in on a 6 pack of tickets for him and his father to attend Phillies games together.
A Phillies World Series Champions hardhat- OSHA approved!
Flight of the Conchords CD
Black and tan spoon (to make black and tan beers with Guinness or any other stout)- this also doubles as a bottle opener. It looks like a turtle!
Nice Calvin Klein French cuff shirt (my father bought him cuff links)
Two awesome ties- one blue and another orange/cream (sounds weird but its hot
10.gif
)
I''m framing the newspaper front covers from Philly area papers from when the Phillies won the WS

I feel like I''m forgetting something but maybe not...

We decided to do small gifts since we've got an e-ring to pay for as well as a big ski trip in Canada we're taking in January, which is pretty much our big gift to ourselves. But I cheated too and bought him a big Craftsman tool storage that he desperately needs. He's really easy to shop for right now b/c he needs a lot of things, but never really buys for himself.

The only thing I can think of that he's hinted toward for me is a ring holder for the house for when I take my e-ring off. I don't mind small things, I actually get the most joy out of giving gifts that people really love and use a lot.

At first I wanted to do a long weekend trip and take him to a Washington Redskins game, but this turned out to not be a good year with our schedules. That would have been fun though, would have toured Washington DC and everything.

I told FI that our wedding bands would be our Christmas gifts to each other this year. But I also got him a pair of cufflinks as a surprise since I was going to get them for him anyway for the wedding plus his band is soo much less expensive than mine, I thought he deserved a little something extra :)

I found these really nice sterling silver and tiger''s eye cuff links through an online retailer. They arrived yesterday and are beautiful! The tiger''s eye reminds me of our boy cat, which I think FI will also get a kick out of :)

We just finish painting and decorating our apt. Plus we just ordered a 52 flat screen, and an amazing leather bedroom set. I''m still waiting on how my bonus is going to look, and if it''s what Im hoping. I want to surprise my FI with this cartier wedding band he has been eyeing, and 2 tickets to see a fun broadway show like young frankenstein or the new shrek and of course dinner. I have my fingers crossed! We are spending a ton plus the wedding in 4 months isnt really helping lol

This is exactly the kind of advice I've been looking for. I've never had a game system so hardly know what I'm looking at it. I had just about given up and planned on just letting him pick out his own. Having one or two to start with is so much better.

That''s very true, though FI and I had a blast playing them "together" by just swapping the controller back and forth every half hour or so. It''s hard for us to compete against each other because he''s so much better at video games, so I actually like games where we both contribute, but we''re not necessarily competing. And if it''s a mentally challenging game like Zelda, the second person can definitely help out with solving puzzles and things. Mariokart''s the exception, because I can actually beat him at that occasionally

We are doing a joint gift (Ok, maybe it is more for me!) of a brandy new Nikon D60. Because it is mostly for me, he has several wrapped packages under the tree including a new controller and a game for his PS3. On top of that he always gets socks and boxers from me - it has sort of become a tradition.

What he doesn''t know is that in January he''ll be getting an X-Box 360. My friend''s hubby works at Microsoft and is going to pick one up for me (hello employee discount!) when he starts back to work in January. I''m super excited to give it to him, although I realize it means I''ll never be able to watch TV in the living room again.

haha ditto! we love our new tv :)

Thanks for all the great ideas! I am at a loss for what to get FI. And whenever I ask for hints, he says he doesn''t need or want anything! Oy vey! If he ever asked for help, I have a zillion hints. Boys are so hard! Oy vey!

You and I are single-handedly keeping Nikon in business through the fourth quarter of 2008

I got my FI the Nikon D3X. He is NOT expecting it (so I really hope not to be unpleasantly surprised and discover he bough it for himself already, yikes!). He''s dying for this thing, and he''s a photographer/cameraman by trade so I know he''ll get tons and tons of use out of it. Also, all he has is Nikon glass, so that helped take the guess work out of it.

This isn''t between FI and I, but my parents decided to go in on a Nikon D90 for FI and I as Christmas/next year birthdays/wedding gift/whatever else it ends up being for!

Haha so we all helped Nikon too! So excited.

clothes. we went shopping last week and I bought him 5 shirts/sweaters and a pair of jeans. It was what he wanted / needed.

In my family, my mom always took us shopping for our gifts. in his family they all give amazon lists that people buy off of. we are not big on surprise presents or anything so taking him shopping isnt really out of the ordinary for us.

We also just bought (two days ago) a new car so we had a second one around. Thats kind of like a household gift to both of us (though more me then him)

My BF has gotten:

2 sweaters from JCrow (I''m encouraging him to wear more sweaters, plus it''s COLD in Chicago!)
A Farewell to Arms (Hemingway''s one of his favorite authors and I know he hasn''t read it in a long long time)
A gift certificate for two massages
Boxers (unromantic, and yet, so practical and necessary!)
A Coach wallet - black leather (he''s been needing one - and as a bonus, I took apart his old wallet, organized all his stuff, and put it into the new one before giving it to him!)

He''s gotten me a Wii!!

We already opened ours since we''re both home with our families in different states for the holidays

I was going to go low key with FI this year but then he mentioned that the earrings from WF he ordered wouldn't be ready in time for Christmas so he had this other big surprise for me lined up. OOPS... So I ran out on impulse like the other procrastinators this year and bought him a couple of Prada outfits at Saks. Tonight. The crowd was INSANE. I feel like I just aged a year in one hour.
32.gif
But boy, he's going to look dynamite in 2009!

Boxers are great stocking stuffers, too!

We didn''t spend this much as a the last few years...we''re saving up for the wedding! But I did get him a new winter coat, a few pillows and two dvd''s that he really wanted. I also got him a few stocking stuffers. I honestly have NO clue what he''s getting for me though!

I just got his gifts last night! BF was a Philosophy major with a focus on relgion, so I got him a copy of the Tanakh, the Talmud, and the Koran (I probably misspelled all of those!). I went a little over budget, but it''s the only thing he''s mentioned wanting in the last six months that he hasn''t already bought himself!

It did, however, get me a weird look from the clerck at Barnes and Noble when, beaming, I said, "I think I finally got him a good Christmas present!" But I''m fairly certain this is something he actually really wants. Woohoo!
