Hi,

I am searching for a diamond between 1.2-1.5 Carat, Color F-D, Clarity VS1 or above, Ideal Cut (H&A). Budget is 15k-18k.

What are the other important factors I should consider say, in terms of dimension, (depth, girdle, table).

Say for example, I found this one here.

The 4C''s and the basic spec seems good.

But this was graded March 2006, so probably hasn''t been sold for over a year. Something I should be aware of about this? Perhaps the dimension is not ideal?

Thanks a lot.

That's a really gorgeous diamond, nothing wrong with it.

I would imagine it may not have sold because of the high clarity, or, it's possibly a trade in.

But it's beautiful!

Looks beautiful to me too!

Ellen,

You mentioned about trade in. So is the seller obligated to tell the customer that the diamond is a trade in or a returned one?

Or can they just sell it as new without telling the customer?

Thanks.

ack, *dies of gorgeousness*

diamonds aren''t new, anyway. they''re all old.

F VVS1 is very fine quality. Most people are looking at G/H VS/SI so an F VVS1 is going to sit around for a while...

I cannot say, I have no idea for sure. My educated guess would be, they don''t tell the buyer. But, I''m pretty sure when a diamond comes back on a trade it has to be sent back into the lab that graded it, checked out for any damage (and possibly) issued a new grading report. Someone please correct me if I''m wrong.

And as Julie alluded to, they ARE all old.

My *only* (very humble!) suggestion is to at least CONSIDER dropping color and clarity a little bit (but never CUT). Doing so would (1) save you some money --OR-- (2) allow you to get a larger stone. And as a SIZE GIRL, a little bit more SIZE is never a bad thing!

Thanks for the info.

yes, you are right, all diamonds are OLD. But you know what I mean by "old". That is, if the diamond has been previously enjoyed instead of one that is fresh off the cutter :P

Wow, this diamond looks great to me. I think you''d be very happy with it.

Hi bschai,

That''s a gorgeous stone! Just my two cents, I personally would drop a little in clarity because the VVS grade is definitely a factor that''s affecting the price. A VS1 would be very clean IMO and with the money you save, you could get a bigger stone (but like others have mentioned, don''t sacrifice cut).

As for the cert date, it''s probably because it''s a VVS1 and hasn''t been sold because people might be looking for a slightly lower clarity grade or like Ellen said, it could be a trade in.

My BF recently purchased the stone for my ering and we had specs similar to yours. Good luck with your search! I''m sure you''ll end up with a beautiful stone!
