Hello all,

I’ve been given two great offers for lab diamonds that I need help with.

1.00, D, VS2, ideal

This diamond is from a reputable MMD seller and being offered for $2700. My main questions center on the cut. Will the 60/60 here produce the ideal sparkle? How do these diamonds compare?

This diamond is from what appears to be a reasonable seller on eBay for $2k (I got him down to $1750 wire). He is non-USA based but being able to check via IGI seems reasonable considering a 30 day return policy. How does this diamonds cut compare? How does IGI Antwerp compare here compare to IGI USA?

One final question—my SO’s size is 3.25-3.5. If I go w/solitare would you recommend 1.5 mm or 2 mm? Thank you for any help!

Have you run the diamond angles etc. through the HCA tool (under the Tools tab at the top of the forum) to make sure they score under 2?

WRT the shank size, 1.5mm is very thin, even for platinum, so a wider shank would be at less risk of damage if your intended works with their hands every day.

Super helpful! They both scored 1.3. I love tools like this.

And that's helpful about the width of the setting. TY

Apologies, totally missed your other questions. lol

I think the different IGI labs are generally consistent - I can't remember which labs it is but there is one that is not very well rated. IGI or GCAL seem to be the most commonly used labs for MMDs - GIA can grade but only into 'colourless' or 'near colourless', so in many ways, the additional detail on the IGI/GCAL reports can be helpful :)

60/60 stones will tend towards more white light than coloured fire.
