Hi, I think I want to purchase the WF Vatche X-Prong with a Princess, Radiant, or Asscher cut diamond except I can''t decide which cut. I like them all. Right now i''m leaning towards Radiant but am not sure. It would be for a size 6 ring also and am wondering if a 1/2 carat stone might look too small? I probably can''t get 1 carat but could go a bit higher than 1/2 carat. What do you think?

Hi RingyBingy:

The 3 rings I attached are rings made by Whiteflash.

The first 2 pictured is a princess and radiant cut diamond in the vatche X-prong setting and the third ring is an Asscher cut diamond in a custom made ring which they designed for a client. All these rings are from customers who posted on Pricescope.

The radiant in the 2nd picture is a nice looking stone in the elegant vatche x-prong setting. out of all the cuts you listed I would either choose between Asscher or Radiant. i like the style of both.

I think a half carat size diamond will look fine. If you want to stretch your dollars a little I would ask about diamonds in the half carat range or higher which have G/H in color and vs-2/si1 in clarity.

I think you have set yourself up for a beautiful ring and can''t wait to see what stone you decide on. The X-Prong is a beautiful setting with flowing lines and curves. You should have a spectacular ring when your finished.

Hi there. This post might get more replies if you ask Leonid to move it over to Rocky Talk.

Here is a picture of the x-prong with a half carat stone. Do you want platinum? You can save money if you go with white gold or yellow gold.

This is the round.

This is a half carat princess in the x-prong:

Wow, Ideal Gemstone Nut, that Asscher cut ring is probably really expensive. I won''t bother to inquire how much it cost. I think I can rule out Radiant however i''m still intrigued by Asscher over Princess. Since I initially was excited about the Princess Cut i''m kind of thinking to go with my instincts and get the Princess Cut stone but am still undecided. Patty, thanks for those pictures, they are very helpful. I definitely want platinum, but since my budget is very limited I have decided to get the White Gold setting now to allow for a better stone, and then upgrade to platinum in a year or two. Right now, i think i''m very close to making a decision i''m just having a difficult time choosing a cut and picking out the diamond. I kind of understand the color and clarity stuff but don''t know what to look for in the depth percentages and those GIA reports. I don''t know leonid, would one of you two be able to ask him for me to move this post to another forum?

Also Patty, how come the metals look different in the pictures you posted? Is that just the picture? I like the looks of the metal on the bottom one...

ringyblingy, I''m not sure why the metals look different. I posted the platinum pictures because the Vatche web page does not show the 18k white gold.

I think i''m going to go with the Princess Cut. I''m still a bit undecided but I like them both so...I really like how that ring looks with the Princess Cut stone. Now the issue is picking out a stone. I think I could use some help with this, do I need to pay attention to ALL of the following info when considering the stone?

Report: GIA
Shape: Princess
Carat: 0.5 and up
Color: ?
Clarity:?
Depth: ?
Table: ?
Girdle: ?
Polish: ?
Symmetry: ?
Culet: ?
Fluorescence: ?
Measurements: ?
Length/Width: ?

Ideally, i''d like to just get everything through Whiteflash, I don''t want to get a stone elsewhere unless someone knows of a super rock for a good price. Honestly, my budget is very limited. If I could keep the cost including the setting (which is under $800 I believe) and the stone to $1800 that would be awesome but I think i''d go to $2000 to spend a little more on the stone. What do you think? I''m getting very close I just need to pick out the stone.

short answer......yes.
but, it you want to make it easy on yourself, call wf and tell them what you want and how much you want to spend. they will find a good stone for you. best of luck!

WF labels this "radiant" which can't be quite right because of the step cut pavilion... This looks like Lucida or Lucere (both branded cuts) to me. Half carat, high grades and top cut, and quite interesting, I think.

There seems to be some serious dearth of princess cuts at WF these days
2.gif
- nothing 0.7-0.8 cts, H-I, VS2-Si1, up to 70% table and depth and thin-slighty thick girdle...(that's what I run a search for).

Allowing for a deeper cut, two pieces turn up:

Item Code 5050630 5050730
Shape Princess Princess
Carat 0.73 0.78
Color I I
Clarity VS2 SI1
Measurements 5.01-4.88X3.65 5.03-4.90X3.70
Table % 69 70
Depth % 74.8 75.5
Polish Excellent Excellent
Symmetry Good Good
Girdle TN- STK-TK
Culet None None
Fluorescence No No
Certificate GIA GIA
Price $1,904.00 $2,000.00
Links: Link to 0.73 I/VS2 link to 0.78 G/Si1

At this point, I have no resaon to prefer one over the other: perhaps the 0.78 would be "safer" because of the thicker girdle although "thin" is not bad on the other. The size difference is immaterial... Perhaps WF can advise further if the stones happen to be at hand

Just my 0.2, of course

White Flash is always one of the places that I look when trying to find stones that might fit the bill, but you're right . . . there are no princesses under $4k in their expert selection.

Here's a stone from DCD:

0.72 H SI2 for $1863

There are some other stones in between 0.50 and this stone with higher color and clarity, but this seemed to be the most bang for the buck as long as the inclusions are not visible.

White Flash can order the following stone which other vendors are also offering:

0.71 H SI1 D68.1 T72 for $2024 Of course we don't know its crown height. (Price reflects slight PS discount)

What is the difference between the expert collection and the regular collection. Should I just call them to try to discuss getting a diamond in my price range or look elsewhere for a rock?

anyone?

I think that calling them is the way to go.

The round stones that they have in the Expert Selection section are stones that for one reason or another did not meet their stringent "A Cut Above" criteria.

I think that the other shapes are all listed in the Expert Selection section, since the ACA brand only applies to rounds.

The people at Whiteflash are very helpful from what I''ve heard and I think that if you told them your budget, they would be happy to help you select a stone.

hey ringybingy
expert selection diamonds are ones that are physically housed at wf......hand selected and ready to be shipped
2.gif

others are virtual inventory.
does that answer your question? somewhat

Does anyone know why the metals might look different in Pattys photos?

it''s just a different photo technique. they would look the same in person.

ok, so unless anyone else has any suggestions i''ll probably just try to contact whiteflash later this week to get the ball rolling.

i hope i''m making the right decisions...

aaaahhh......this is the easy part! you haven''t made any decisions yet! call wf and see what they can do for you.
