I''ve been going back and forth between the Whiteflash Harmony (Love Lynn B''s!) and the James Allen 0.54ctw shared prong settings. I really like the way the JA looks online but haven''t been able to see any actual photos, just the CAD images on their website. I also haven''t been able to find as much feedback regarding the quality of their settings.

I would love to hear opinions/preferences regarding the two settings ESP if anyone owns or has seen the JA in person. I''ve also noticed that the WF website describes the harmony as 2.3mm in width, while Lynn B listed hers at 2.1mm. I know it doesn''t seem like a big difference, but I''m afraid that 2.3 might be getting a little substantial for my taste.

Here are the links to the settings:

THANKS!

I just looked at both of these on the respective website. While similar,, the main difference is the type of center setting in the rings. The WF one has a 4 prong head with wire prongs and a circular bezel just under the edge of the diamond. the prongs steeply angle inward underneath, sort of creating a 4 prong martini setting effect. The JA ring has a more standard die-struck 4 prong head in the center. Both would be highly durable center settings with the delicacy factor going to the WF style.

I am certain that one could have the sides of the WF ring "lapped" to 2.2 or possibly 2.1mm in thickness without doing any damage other than that you are immediately grinding away a bit of what would otherwise be there to wear away over many years. The 0.2mm is not worth thinning out, but fashion is king for some people and I won''t argue with those sorts of decisions. No doubbt, the JA ring at 2.2mm could also be lapped to 2.1mm with the same premature wear warning.

Given 10 or 15 years of daily wear, the 2.3mm ring will measure 2.2 or 2.1 by then. The "quality" of both settings is going to be similar as both firms are well aware of the power of criticism on Pricescope and how much easier it is to give a better product with little problem to their customers. These are not custom items, so you can trust that the design has been fully evolved and no strange design flaws will be in either piece.

I have the JA common prong (same setting, but mine is the thinner, 1.9 mm version) for my sapphire. I love the setting - it's very delicate and sparkly.

I think one of the differences between the JA and WF is that the JA is a cathedral type, whereas the Harmony and LynnB's gorgeous setting are not.

If you go through the threads I've started under my profile, I have several pics of my sapphire JA ring up - the original thread for the ring is one of the first threads I created.
