Hey everybody! So i absolutely love this ring.. the issue is that it has a sapphire addition underneath the center, and I am simply curious if anyone has any knowledge what the possibility would be of being able to remove completely or replace that sapphire with a regular diamond? To me, the blue is just not a good addition, but I LOVE the rest of the ring. Is this possible at all or is it basically just a black and white thing and that's the only way it could come?

Thank you!

My guess is that it would be easy to order your ring with diamonds instead of those sapphires. Substituting rather than removal would work best for the look of the ring. Good luck!

Is this from Zales? If so, I wouldn't purchase a ring there, but I suppose that's another thread entirely…
As far as the actual ring, you'd have to ask the jeweler about switching out the sapphire. Zales items are mass-produced, so it may be that the ring comes in that particular setting and you can't make modifications, but again, that would be a question for your jeweler.

^ Great advice! I noticed the brand is Vera Wang, I see it is sold at Zale's and other jewelers.

Thank you both for the feedback! The ring is great so I will definitely try doing so.

May I ask why you are not a fan of Zales? Or would that be too off-topic?

Both Zales and Vera Wang products use fairly ordinary diamonds that are average to poor quality cuts. It might be cheaper and you will get a nicer ring by purchasing a better cut centre stone from one of the vendors listed here or post another thread in the Rockytalk forum giving everyone the size, shape colour and clarity of what you want your general budget and they will help find a centre stone for you and buying a setting that is better made than that one that looks similar from somewhere like Gabriel and Co. The members recently helped another member make a similar style of ring and they ended up with a better cut larger centre stone for the same price of a Vera Wang product.

Tick the box that says settings and the box that says halos, you will find a number of settings in a similar style to this ring all without the sapphires on the side.

Or alternatively post a pic of the above setting on Rockytalk and ask everyone to help you make that ring with whatever shaped centre stone you want (a cushion or a round brilliant) and your budget and you will get suggestions.

I agree with everyone that said Zales isn't the place to buy a high quality engagement ring. That setting is fairly popular, it could be found other places. What's your budget for this endeavor?

Start a thread on RT and you will find all sorts of helpful tips on how to replicate this ring :wavey:

I agree that Gabriel and Co. carries very similar settings in better quality. You may be able to access a retailer locally, but if not, Good Old Gold carries it and I think ID Jewelry does as well.

+2 ^ You can get a great diamond from one of the online retailers for the same or better price than Zale's. We'd be glad to help you!

Hi Runemelody,

I can vouch for better diamonds for less money by listening to the advice around here. I went to a mall store the other day and found a diamond the same size as the one I am getting in a ring for 2,000 more than we are paying. Their diamond was an I1 (included) and mine is a VS1 (very slightly included). Theirs was a solitaire, mine is a platinum halo.

The ring IS a very pretty design, but the diamonds will probably not perform very well and may also look a little cloudy or have black specks in them or white spots that look dirty. Please take a loop with you when you go back and look at the quality of the stones. According to the website, the ring you like has stones of the SI2 - I1 quality. My guess is more I1 than Si1. To better see what a I1 looks like, check out James Allen ( jamesallen.com ) and plug in different clarity ratings and see stones that are I1.

Pricescope people on these forums worry about it either an I1 stone that is so included and poorly cut that it always looks dirty, or included in such a way that it will crack easily. There ARE alternatives that will end up being a super high quality (read shiny, bright, see it across the room blingy). Unfortunately, you will not get that quality at the mall. If you do get a half way decent quality stone, you will pay a huge mark-up.

Everything said above is great advice! :appl:

Not off-topic at all:)
Zales items are mass-produced, over-priced, and typically, lower quality. In short, you can get a whole lot more bang for your buck if you shop somewhere other than a mall jewelry store. Please, please, please don't shop at Zales :D

Wow, so much great advice! I really appreciate everybody taking the time to help me! I personally had no idea Zales was actually a mall store, and now that I know that I am definitely going to find a similar ring elsewhere.

I'm not too educated on the types of diamonds that were mentioned, such as I1 and VS1. It's great to know this now before I made any decisions! My budget is around $3,000-4,000 if I can help it (maybe a little more if needed), and Moneymeister, you mentioned the different quality types, and I am just trying to find one that will hold up both in terms of quality and appearance, and have a definite "wow" factor. I'm not sure what type of diamond this would be, but looking at the examples on www.jamesallen.com,, I defintely think I should stay away from the I1's if they are less quality. I checked the Gabriel and Co. website, and I was unable to find something quite the same as this one, but hopefully I can find something similar! Any other store suggestions are appreciated.

The mix of a cushion design, with the size of the diamond and with the twist of the band is mainly what I'm looking for, and the ring above does it perfectly. I only wish it was better quality.

I just want to throw out that this ring will actually be for my future fiancé. We are still a little ways off from engagement, but I'm ready to begin my search and I know without a doubt she would LOVE the ring above I posted (just from everything she's told me), but if the quality is lacking I really want to do my homework to make sure it's absolutely beautiful and will last a long time.

I appreciate the help everybody, and any more advice is always welcome!

This one was nice, but the cushion is framed a little differently as well as the band isn't quite the same, and I'm not sure she'd be as much of a fan that, but it still seems similar in terms of design! It's so much cheaper too, which automatically worries me. I guess I won't know for sure until I go see it in person. I'm just an amateur after all! ;)

There are people here that love the "hunt" of engagement rings who know their stuff. I am still learning too. The mall store lessons I learned first hand 30 years ago with a "dirty diamond ring" I could not make sparkly no matter how much I tried! Then I would stand next to someone else and their diamond would really twinkle and look amazing and mine just sort of looked cloudy. Lots and lots of non-sparkly diamonds will never be a pretty as fewer diamonds that give your fiance a fireworks display.

May I suggest you start a thread on rocky talk and let people help you find the perfect center stone and setting that fits your budget?
There are miracle workers on here who seem to have spidey senses that can find you something amazing for your budget. The more modest the budget, sometimes the more people who enjoy helping to find the right ring.

Anyhow, if you post your ring budget, her ring size and these pictures of designs you like...the diamond experts will jump in and help!

Edit: May I also suggest reading up on the 4 c's here? https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds
