Hi all,

We were shopping for our wedding bands, a very simple class band, at a name brand store.

Since the store does not has our ring size in stock, the sales consultant suggest to resize what she has in stock at the moment. It''s a platinum ring, I''m afraid the resizing will affect the integrity of the band.

I always have the impression that those ring/band were made from ''tube'', but the sales consultant told us that it''s bent from ''plate'' and solder at the bottom. Is it true?

Thanks!

I would want a ring that was made in my size at the outset. I''d go to a new jeweler!

how many sizes are you needing it be sized? If it''s a small amount than sizing it might be okay, otherwise I agree with Diamondseeker and would just have the band ordered and made in the correct size.

It is about half a size down, would it be ok?

I''m also worried about the place where it joins, will the color be different or change over time?

Thanks!

I understand that it does not make much material difference but it would bug me.

I also wanted an unsized ring. (Well I hope it was not sized before I got it- but who knows?)

Could you ask them to order it in your size. As long as it isn''t an etermity band I wouldn''t worry about the structural integrity of the band, but for peace of mind I''d rather have one that started out at the right size.

Honestly for 1/2 a size I don''t know that I''d be that bothered, but if you are, you have every right to request a brand new ring.

Ditto everyone else - it''s not a big issue at all, no there won''t be discoloring or breakage (if the jeweler does an acceptable job), but there''s no reason why they shouldn''t be able to order you a new one.

Unless the ring is discontinued or something, ask for a new one. We had an ordeal with DH''s ring being sized that lasted for months until they finally replaced it. It was more ornate than just a plain band but still.

A half size shouldn''t disrupt the integrity of a plain band, but if it would bother you I''m sure you can choose another jeweler who would make it in your size.

If you get a ring in the store that needs to be resized, it should be discounted. If you get it resized, get it laser welded. Don't let them resize it any other way. Other ways often show a joint and are not that strong. If the solder is not platinum it will not patina and show over time. Laser welding is the way to go. If they don't have the machine or can't afford it, I would not let them resize it and would simply order a new ring made to your size.
