I was reading a thread about an eternity band wearing away the prongs of their ering and I was wondering if this only a problem with shared prong rings? I''m thinking of getting a platinum channel set eternity band, but I obviously don''t want it destroying my other ring, which is also platinum.

Thanks!

yes, it''s only a shared prong ring issue. channel set rings are fine..it would be metal against metal, no exposed diamond girdles to worry about.

If two rings are set next to each other and are not soldered together, they are likely to rub against each other with normal wear and the rubbing will wear down the metal of both rings - regardless of whether those rings are platinum, gold or another metal...

I would think channel set would be fine. My rings are both platinum channel set. The appraiser said over time (if you don't flip them, etc) they will wear away the sides of the channels and it can be hard to fix. She said like 10 years or so. She said just watch for it if I don't want to soder them together. I hadn't heard of that before. Hopefully the experts will chime in

ETA: we were posting at the same time. Is it hard to fix?

true, i assumed orbaya wanting to know if the channel set ring would eat away at the prongs like most shared prong setting do.

Thanks for the responses!

I see so many rings here that are soldered together and I would assume that they rub together. I haven''t read about wearing down issues except with shared prong settings. Is it a bad idea for me to get a channel set band to wear next to my other ring, or should I not worry too much about it if neither are shared prong?
