Seeing as PS is a very selective audience, i thought this game would be fun and informative. If you are wealthy or know wealthy people well, please play along
So here are the rules:
Finish the sentence by adding a behavior that wealthy people don’t do in regards to MONEY—not character, lol. For example: wealthy people don’t limit their Driving even when gas is 4.69 a gallon.
Rule 2: Yes, wealthy is a relative term—I don’t need only millionaires to participate. I’m talking about all of you who are wealthy enough to have free time to spend on a diamond forum to research a luxury purchase. Lol.

To get ideas rolling but DO Not limit to these. behaviors that I wonder about —at what point do wealthy people complain about price hikes in cable, gas bill, etc. or do they not notice or feel it’s worth their time. Lol. Our cable bill went up to 160 a month and dear hubby is on the phone negotiating a discount—clearly we are not wealthy enough to not be bothered, lol. We were previously paying 100.

Wealthy people don’t consider money when they make health decisions. For example, they will approach the specialist or hospital where they will get the best health outcomes, especially in case of serious disease, even if it necessitates travelling overseas and paying fully out of pocket.

Deleted. A bit too sad for a Sunday afternoon.

@nala You’d better believe I’d be on the phone too with the cable company too :silenced: :knockout:

Wealthy people don’t set up Gofundme to cover funeral expenses. I contributed this one bc I don’t know if it’s a Latino culture thing, but I know plenty of people who purport to be wealthy but who seem to think that it’s everyone else’s responsibility to help pay for a 15k dollar funeral. I’ve been baffled about this one for a while.

Wealthy people don't ever say "I AM RIIIIICH"

My OBNOXIOUS neighbor screamed this at my au pair over the fence who he mistook for a an underpaid nanny. So wrong. On so many levels. Disgusting he'd go after what he perceived to be the "defenseless help".
Fortunately I'd warned her about him and she's a smart and fearless young lady . So she answered the above sentence. We still occasionally laugh about it !

This is what my idea is of the ideal. Certainly doesn't apply to every wealthy person but hopefully the great majority..

Wealthy people don't care about other people's opinions.

Wealthy people don't believe in fate.

Wealthy people keep their goals in sight.

Wealthy people don't let emotions get in the way.

Wealthy people don't play lotto or mega millions.

Wealthy people don't show off.

GoFundMe has become a shameless cross-cultural cash grab. Also funeral prices in general are ridiculous but that's another conversation.

But in the same vein, the wealthiest person I ever met wore torn shoes and constantly tried to get others to pick up the tab for lunch, drinks, or whatever they ordered. I think they saw it as a game or a joke? I dunno but it was weird and unfunny.

So that's mine. Wealthy people try to get out of paying for stuff lol

Wealthy people are just like poor people except they have more money for whatever reason: hard work, luck, inheritance, time in the market, genetics, or any combination thereof.

They can be shallow, insecure, spendthrifty, emotional, lucky, anxious, lazy, hardworking, cheaters, liars, ill-educated, honest, loyal, frugal, miserly, generous, well-dressed, slobs, show-offs, thieves, pious, scammers, greedy, lusty, etc.

People are people. Money doesn't change your nature, it just enhances it.

Hi. That’s why I listed the rules of this game. It is not a judgement on character but seeking Behaviors in regard to money from PSer’s personal experience. That is all.

I'll go with what I think of as "wealthy" and also the fun and pampered version of it, as seen on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. :cool2:

Wealthy people don't... go out for haircuts, nail appointments, massages, spray tans, waxing, Botox, dog grooming, working out, doctor visits and clothes shopping, daycare, tutoring etc. The providers of goods and services come to them instead.

I felt like I was finally doing well when I could buy out-of-season fruit at the grocery store and fancy cheese whenever I felt like it!
This is when I realized I’m doing okay…I buy what I want to eat, and don’t really look at grocery prices….my husband does get on my case about why I’d buy pears at $4 each…..

Hmmmm, the concept of wealthy I guess depends on your peer group. If you live in a poor country probably having food on the table, running water and a roof over your head is wealthy. If you live in a very exclusive upmarket area having a 10 car garage and 10 exotic cars probably makes you wealthy.
Priorities often determine what you spend money on. You can be wealthy and still care about the cost of things and look to save money while you can be poor and spend any dollar on anything you can without care or concern.
Wealthy is relative.
Having enough money to cover your needs and most wants is enough.
Some of the wealthiest, old money, people I’ve known lead very normal lives rarely displaying their wealth. I remember going to a wealthy guys Mothers house, he was a friend from work, and looking around the room with my mouth open. I saw paintings on the walls that were the originals of ones I’d seen copies/ prints of.

Hi. Once again I clarified that wealth is relative. And I asked PSers to play the game by filling in the blank. I don’t mean to be rude or to censor, I just don’t want this thread to stray. It is not meant to be a judgement of character or a collection of stereotypes. Just a fill in the blank according to your personal experience so that the rest of us can get a glimpse into how other PSer’s view the world in terms of money—with just a short statement.

...respond to posts about what wealthy people don't do? =)2

Was waiting for this one! Hahahaha but considering there is a thread about investments and it’s pretty open, I don’t think people are reticent about discussing their wealth here on PS.

Curious, what (net worth) would be considered wealthy?….in a first world country.

Some may think $5m or $10m, some may think $100m or $1b.

True. I spent a lot of time on that one -- but you can't tell from my answers if I have ten dollars or ten thousand dollars. :P2

Can't speak for everyone but I interpreted it as way less than a billion. ;)2

"I can buy my own downtown skyscraper!" seems more than just "wealthy."

"Wealthy" is kind of generic -- like somewhere between top 10% and top few percent comes to mind. I don't think "smart" or "tall" mean above the 99th percentile -- as opposed to "crazy-smart" or "ridiculously tall." :P2

That can be the subject of another thread if you would like to start it! I’m curious too! In this thread, I’m enjoying people’s perspectives of wealth based on how they fill in the blank. It is very insightful to me.

..and you must know that that is completely independent of wealth. If we lose 5 or 10% of our net worth in the stock market (thank you, last week), we don't even blink. But I am not putting an extra 15 minutes on that parking meter even if I gotta sprint back. :mrgreen2:

Funny. I always overpay for the meter and don’t think twice bc when I was not as wealthy, I got a ticket! So now I overpay to avoid unnecessary fees—and stress.
