My mom found this necklace which she forgot she ever owned

She said one of the reasons she probably forgot was that it is not her style so she has NEVER worn it. Well, PSers we need to change that don''t we?!?

My mom did get it appraised and it is worth quite a bit. He said it was a nice stone. I will try to get more information (the exact size) when I talk to her next. For now all I have are these very bad pictures. She wears both WG and YG. Maybe something two-toned? A diamond halo? We need ideas!

Is that Emerald? It is lovely. A diamond halo will look nice. Can you reuse the small diamonds on the heart for pave on the current emerald setting, and then rodium plate it to white. The emerad setting looks like it is custom made to fit the stone but I am not sure if there is enough gold for the pave. Just for fun, I tried to do a diamond pave halo on the emerald to see how it looks like. Sorry that it might not turn out like what it should be. I am just a beginner trying to manipulate settings with various stones on the computer.

Actually, I like that mounting. I wonder if your mom would like it better if you had the whole pendant rhodium plated?

If she''d prefer something more delicate, a thin pave halo with an airline between the emerald and the halo would be lovely...

I agree - I was going to suggest starting out by having it rhodium plated and see if she liked it better...and then take it from there. If she doesn''t like it even with the rhodium, I LOVE the idea of a halo around that emerald!!!

Thanks everyone, I will forward this thread to my mom. I think there is just too much gold on the sides and she isn't really a heart type of girl. It would look great with a thin diamond halo. Maybe it could hang from a small RB diamond?


It is a Colombian Emerald.

ETA: my mom thinks it is about 3.5 cts.

My father only buys her emeralds and he only buys them in Colombia (he goes there for medical missions). She forgot she had it so I don''t think she would remember when he gave it to her. It could very well be from the 80''s or the early 90s! I know once she redesigns it she would wear it. It is just too much metal and too dated looking as it. I guess you can also wear it on a strand of pearls (if you noticed that little slip on the side) What online places are good for a project like this?
