Which main stone would you use?

Hi,
Opinions needed!
I’m trying to do an updated three stone to use my unheated sapphires. For the main stone, I have two options but can’t decide. Should I use the warm O-P uncertified natural transitional cut or the F color lab? Both are the same diameter. I like the look of the icy white against sapphires but don’t love for labs as an e-ring.
What would you do?

Is the OEC in that glorious antique reproduction on the bottom?

I would ordinarily prefer mined old cuts every time. But as I said that setting is gorgeous. Is there a reason you would want to pull the stone from it?

It’s more like I want to pull the sapphires and use them. Right now they don’t get worn often enough and want to add them to a simple three stone that is not haloed.

Although I prefer natural diamonds, my vote goes to F lab because I love the look of an icy white diamond next to sapphires.

Yes, I would prefer white diamonds with sapphires, but I too am a natural diamond lover. Sorry I am not much help!

I would not mess with that old cut setting. I would take the white lab. If you want a white-looking old cut, but you want a natural diamond, and you are ok with a reproduction, try contacting Distinctive Gem. Their AVRs will face up white at lower colors (but will still show color from the side).

Yes, it is.

I wouldn't pull that apart. And I typically don't like warmer diamonds that show a lot of yellow with sapphires (my opinion only) so I'd go for the lab in this situation. even though I'm not a fan of lab either for the mind clean thing.

This is my experience. I previously had a three stone ring made with a warm OEC center and blue sapphire sides. The colors had an unflattering affect on each other so within a year I ended up replacing the center of the three stone with an icy white sapphire and put the oec in a vintage repro. The result was that I had two rings I liked instead of one ring that made me unhappy. I would definitely choose the F lab.

I voted before looking at the settings  Just bc of mined vs lab. Then I saw the setting that the OEC was already in, so I changed my vote. I also would not break apart the old cut ring.

Or… a sapphire three stone

I prefer natural diamonds to lab in most cases, but I feel that icy white goes better with blue sapphire. I also would be hesitant to take apart such a beautiful ring. So I guess I’m not much help!

A small thread jack - nice to see you again @BMI always loved your avatar. It makes me smile!

So…I ended up taking the natural stone out of the antique repro to have the three stone with sapphires made. I decided to get an emerald and put it in the repro. This is my first emerald ring and I looove the way it came out. The rings should arrive tomorrow, but here are the glamour shots below.

I love how it turned out. Both rings look amazing. Can I ask what the measurements are on the sapphire three stone. I think the proportions are perfection.

Yes, sure and thank you. I didn’t plan on doing it with exact proportions but was just using what I had, so I really appreciate the compliment. The diamond is 8.5mm and the sapphires are 5.5

Thank you so much for your response. A three stone is on my wishlist in the future so it's great to know what I'll need to be looking for. I can't wait for hand shots. I'm sure you'll enjoy them just in time for the holidays!

Thanks @maryjane04 i love three stones too. I’m not sure if I will wear her as a sapphire wedding set or as a right hand ring .i have different finger sizes and now it’s set to fit as a wedding ring. I was thinking of doing an all sapphire/diamond suite. We will see when she comes tomorrow and I’m sure I will have a million photos.

I love it. You can't go wrong either way. A sapphire and diamond suite would be amazing but I think it's perfect by itself right now. Can't wait for the million photos tomorrow! Don't be shy haha.

Beautiful rings! Can’t wait for handshots!

We were just taking in another thread about how that is basically the perfect proportions for a three stones! It looks amazing, and you made the right choice. The diamond sings without the halo and the emerald pops.

Thank you @Dreamer_D for the support and kind words! It was such a tough decision to pull it apart but looking at it now with the emerald in the setting, I appreciate the contrast of the green so much more. Plus, I wanted to wear a sapphire three stone on the left hand as an alternate sapphire set like I had a few years ago. Originally, I had used a 1.5 fvs1 stone between the sapphires and it was beautiful too before I haloed it (the proportions were a little off!), then changed it again to put in the lab, as I sold the 1.5. So many changes for me but I’m glad that I did this move and experimented even though it was a tough decision!

It’s was the right one!

What a lovely transformation for both, I can't wait to see your handshots!
