Hello
I made one earlier post and after the feedback received I decided to get more involved in the hunt for our diamond. I have researched until I'm crosseyed and finally it comes to this: The man is searching for a diamond meeting the specs outlined below. He wants to stay under 9K. I do not at all care which lab the stone comes from, as long as it is eye clean and puts my eye out with sparkles. Any suggestions?

Color: H or better
Clarity: SI1 or better (his req. Eyeclean is all that matters to me)
8MM diameter or higher. I understand there is some interchange when it comes to carat weight and size. Ultimately we need something that is 8mm or better face up.
Hearts and Arrows cut is what he prefers- all that matters to me is that the stone sings with glittery light when you look at it.

thanks for your expertise

If I were you id go over to james allen and set it to exellent cut 2 ct or higher H and see what you can get for that amount. :(

An 8mm is going to be a 2 carat. Based on a search on PS, a 2 carat H, SI1 diamond ranges between $14000 to $25000, so with the current budget it is not possible to get the diamond that you want. EGL diamonds are cheap for a reason - it is not what it says on paper, as you would have noticed based on the comments in your other thread. An EGL H SI1 could possibly be a GIA J I1 - and based on the search engines on PS, GIA/AGS H to J I1 are around $9k++ (and with fair to very good cut grades), so my guess is the EGL is probably around the same parameters. An I1 stone is also likely to obscure the light performance of the diamond , depending on how bad it is. Would you be happy with an average cut J I1 stone?

Given your budget, which is the most important to you, what are you willing to trade off, and how "low" can you go i.e lowest color/clarity/size acceptable? Based on that information we might be able to give you more advice.

Have you a actually seen the difference between an 1.8 and a 2 ct? An h vs a k that's GIA graded? Maybe an emerald cut? Fancies are usually cheaper and the length will give lots of finger coverage for the ct

Edited to correct my numbers haha

Your budget will not get you a 2 carat H. Something has got to give. I suggest you would lower your requirement for spread to 7.0 and the color down to J. Then we might be able to get you something worth buying. 9k is the budget for a 1.2-1.4 carat stone at H color with those specs. You can buy a diamond with an upgrade policy and work toward your 8mm goal.

Emerald cut is not a good suggestion. Emerald cuts need higher color and clarity. Oval and pears are the best fancy suggestion when the budget is tight as they are spready and cheaper per carat than RB. She's still not going to get a 2 carat oval for that budget.

I'm sorry your budget is out of line with what you want.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1522063.asp THIS STONE is a really nice find. It's scores really well on the HCA. It's 1.5 carats and 7.4mm. It's got twining wisps for inclusions so it will likely be eyeclean. And it's 8k. It also comes with an upgrade policy. I would put this ON HOLD immediately before a lurker snatches it up and ask for an idealscope image. I think you will be surprised at how white a J is in real life. JA has a 60 days return policy where they pay shipping BOTH ways so you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

Hearts and arrows is patterning. It's not an indication of quality of light return. All that matters is light return and this stone has the right angles to give you that, and an idealscope image will confirm it for you.

If you still want more coverage you can add 300 bucks to the budget and get this setting which will make the stone appear even larger: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/14k-white-gold-pave-halo-engagement-ring-round-center.html

1.5 carats is a great size.

thanks for the responses everyone! I will post a pic when the time comes so everyone can see how we fared.
