Hi Everyone,

i live in California and based on all your reviews I would like to use ID Jewelers or IDJ in NYC.

I have my own personal .77 carat diamond it is still set in a very plain yellow solitaire.

I would love to have a Vatche U113, but I am so scared of losing my ring/diamond. How do you calm your nerves about shipping it out? And in particular putting ID Jewelers on the mailing label?

I really want to work with them, especially because of the rates. One thing though, 18k is more around my budget...I've heard Vatche offers free lifetime sizing, rhodium plating...so does that mean I have to ship it back to NYC every time I need these services? Or is it possible to go to a Vatche dealer in my area and get these services as well?

Thank you!!

CARAT SIZE and U113
Another thing...most of the beautiful Vatche U113 rings I have seen are big, bold beautiful diamonds. Mine is a 0.77 AGS Ideal cut Hearts on Fire bought at a bargain price (I think)...Will this size stone not look as good in a Vatche U113? Does anybody out there have pics of a U113 with a smaller stone?

PRICE/COST
Does the price of the setting vary by size of the stone? Does IDJ charge for setting my own stone...and also possibly removing the diamond from my old setting?

I would appreciate any feedback. I know I have many questions, but I appreciate the collective experience/knowledge of PS.

Thanks.

Definitely not worth shipping a diamond to Vatche for rhodium plating, etc. I really encourage you to get the platinum anyway. I would only send my ring to Vatche for sizing or for changing the head for a larger diamond, which I just did.

Is your diamond insured? If so, it will also be insured when sending it to IDJ either with their shipping label or you'd send it by USPS Registered Mail. Your diamond would be covered if by a slight chance it was lost. I have done this many, many times.

IDJ does not set the stone, Vatche does. Hopefully IDJ wouldn't charge to remove the diamond from the old setting.

Yes, very large stones will make the setting cost more.

A .77 will be nice in the setting. Tiffany sells diamonds in the .20's in their solitaire setting, believe it or not!

Wow you guys are lightening fast!!

About how much more would it be for platinum? The current rate seems like it may be for 18k not sure how much more for platinum?

What I mean...is...would a Vatche dealer in California honor Vatches lifetime sizing, rhodium or is that valid only for the original jeweler you made the purchase from?
Thanks!

The dealer doesn't do it, Vatche does. So you'd have to call a CA Vatche vendor and ask them if you bought a Vatche ring from them, would you have to pay to ship the ring to Vatche for routine maintenance that Vatche offers for free. It isn't free if you have to pay for the shipping! But I'd never send it away just for rhodium plating. I'd do that locally and just pay for it.

I do not know the difference in price between the 18k and platinum. You'd have to call ID Jewelry and ask for a quote.

It there is a picture, it's probably in this under 1ct thread

But I have better luck finding things here using Google with site:pricescope.com added to the search terms, and also search the images.

1.2 ct, 6.7mm https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-d-jewelry-and-yekutiel-strike-again.178354/

This is the setting, but it looks a different, also with a 1.2ct or so

Would you consider staying a yellow gold, or maybe even rose gold? That way you dont have to ever worry about rhodium plating. Plus, I find it more unique than white metal. But that's just me. I prefer gold.

You know who also has a nice tiffany repro? JA. Its 870 for a handmade one in 18k. Take a look at there recently purchased (down toward the bottom left). They show this set with a 0.73 and 0.83

They'll set your stone I do last I checked.

One more thing. If you meant you'd be mailing it yourself, you will not be putting ID Jewelry on the mailing label at all. You will ask them what name to address it to and their address. Never put a jewelry store name on a mailing label. As long as you insure your package (and have an appraisal to back it up), you will be fine.
