I currently have a 2 carat Princess cut that I want to change to an Ascher cut. What is the best way to do this without losing much money. Also I am looking at buying a 2 carat Ascher at least G color no less than VS2. About how much should I expect to pay for this.

The ring I have now is an EGL certificate but I have been told that since it isnt an EGL USA certificate it isnt authentic. I have been told it is another EGL cert. Has anyone heard of that and does it really matter? Should I insist on a GIA cert when purchasing the new diamond?

Any help would be appreciated. I dont know how to go about doing this but I need to get the most money for the diamond I have.

i would try to find a local jeweler who can get you an asscher and also who is willing to take a trade on the stone you have now. you would probably realize the most money from that kind of transaction. diamonds don''t have the greatest ''resale'' value unless it''s investment quality and even then you have to have the right market for it. you may want to contact bill pearlman as i think he takes stones on consignment and possibly trade ins..james allen takes trades i think as well...but for a trade you would be lucky to get like 70% of the value maybe. kind of the same with a local jeweler but again if they can get you a great asscher and are willing to take your stone for 70% i''d go for it. basically just start shopping around and seeing who is interested in working with you.

the other thing is that a 2c asscher may look smaller than the 2c princess (or maybe bigger!) depending on cut and depth and all that, so keep that in mind when shopping for your new asscher too. good luck!

I think I read that James Allen and GOG are willing to offer trade ins for stones that are not bought there but I''m not sure. Its worth contacting both online vendors as well as local vendors.
