Does anyone have an antique Van Craeynest ring? If so, could you please post a picture? Thanks.

Okay, I guess that was a long shot. I was just wondering how the rings made in the 30s and 40s compare to the ones made today as far as style and workmanship.

The pieces made today are exquisite - I have one and it is most impressive, even under a loupe. Have you found a vintage piece?

Yes, I found one online, but it doesn't seem to be as detailed as the rings made today. I'm waiting on some additional pictures in the next few days.

Oh please share pictures of the vintage. Would love to see it.

Seconded :)

I think I've found the ring you're considering (if it's findable online, at any rate), and there's every chance that it's made to today's standards (since VC's methods haven't been modernized at all) -- so if it's in need of refurbishment they can hone it back to its original glory (or better) for you.

The ring is at wanna buy a watch. I'm still waiting for more pictures, but it doesn't appeal to me as much as some of the gorgeous new rings I've seen here.

Ah, I didn't come across that in my search at all. If it's 14K gold it may not be as workable/chase-able as the more modern 18K gold or platinum rings. I do recall Larry once talking about the days of yore when they employed 40 or 50 jewelers (and not the 8 or 10 they have now) and had different ranges of rings according to time put into production. This ring may be from a different range-type -- then again, it might have been one of their top-lines, with all of the details polished out over the decades.

How about sending your picture to Larry (e-mail address etc. here) and asking if the piece could be revamped and for how much? I'm sure it would be a very interesting query for him :)

The ring is described as 14k from the 1920s. I was just curious about older Van Craeynest rings, since they have been around for so long there must be quite a few of them out there. If I was going to buy one, I'd much rather have a new one made. I actually talked to Larry on the phone yesterday about it. Unfortunately, my DH does not share my enthusiasm, so I may have to wait awhile. :((
