So I am looking for a (possible) custom setting for my new cushion, and discovered Whiteflash won''t do this without me shipping off my stone to them. I have time to take the stone back if I need to, in case this becomes a problem, since the jeweler that sold it to me will only keep it under warranty if he sets it himself. (My diamond has two tiny inclusions that could cause issues, so he wants to be careful.)

So I am looking for suggestions on what vendors are willing to make a custom setting without me having to ship my stone to them. Suggest away, ladies and gents!

you might ask Wink but my guess is most custom jewelers are going to want your stone in order to make the setting.

It''s kinda tough to make a custom setting with out the stone so I''m not sure what to suggest. Maybe you could have your stone mapped and have a 3-d model made of it. You could then send it off to have the setting made.

I really doubt anyone will make a *custom* setting without having the stone in hand at the very least.

How about shipping off the stone, having the setting made and then have both the unset stone and the setting shipped back. Then have your jeweler set the stone in your custom setting.

Will the jeweler that sold you the stone have an "issue" with setting your stone in a setting he did not source?

Instead of doing this why don''t you insure the stone and setting-to-be through Jeweler''s Mutual before the stone is set. They will insure it before it''s set under certain circumstances, then your stone will be covered, and I assume you want insurance anyway...

Actually, all most of us need is a good set of measurements of the stone and we can make the setting.

What makes us nervous is if the mounting is damaged when someone else sets it they will always claim it is the fault of the mounting. We thus explicitely do NOT accept any liability for someone else''s work on our mountings and we put it in writing.

Would your jeweler recommend someone to do a custom setting for you that is local and that he/she trusts?
