Hi Lioness,

What I would suggest, try a search on the homepage using the tool below the Pricescope banner, enter marquise and your preferred size specs etc, then click in house to see what comes up. If any of the vendors have matching stones, they should pop up for you so you can see the details.

If nothing shows up, then you can check out the non in house marquise and sort through to see if any match your requirements, then you can choose a vendor that can inspect the stone for you and supply detailed images, then ask them to call the stone in for analysis, photos, ASET and so on. I wouldn't advise buying a marquise without images, or any fancy shape come to that, it's so risky that you could end up with a diamond you dislike or the cut is rubbish. There might be a fee for this service payable even if you don't make the sale but it's a very worthwhile investment I believe for a purchase of this magnitude.

A few things to be aware of with these shapes. Elongated shapes such as pears and marquise often show a bow tie effect, this is a darkish area in the middle of the stone in some lighting conditions that looks just like a bow tie. Some don't mind this effect but it bothers others and while you can't always get away from it, a good vendor can help you choose a diamond that shows maybe less of a bow tie effect.

Sometimes in lower colour grades ( assuming GIA or AGS graded), you might notice a little warmth in the pointed tips of these shapes, I have a GIA large pear that shows a little warmth in some lights in the tip, it doesn't bother me but it's something to be aware of. Again, a good vendor can advise.

Be careful of girdle measurements that state very thin, not always a deal breaker as a very thin girdle might only be in the microns and not in a vulnerable area of a marquise such as the tips, but again, a trusted vendor is your friend and can advise.

Length to width ratio. Marquise come in different shapes, some look like rugby balls, others long and skinny, others in between. It is important to consider the length to width ratio to ensure the outline of the marquise is pleasing to you.

Forgive me if you have already been reading up and know all these things, but I wanted to make sure you had this basic information to hand in case you needed it.

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much, Lorelei, and please accept my apologies for the late reply. I've been busy with family matters during the last few days, so I haven't had a chance to sit down properly at the computer. I'll use the search function as you suggested and post what I find once I'm closer to buying. There's something about a chubby marquise or moval set in a milgrain bezel with a halo that is somehow calling me. Again, thank you.

No problem Lioness, I quite understand! If you give us an idea of budget for the stone and your other requirements, we could have a look to see what's out there for you?

If you give us your specs we can make some recommendations, or is the hunt the fun part  for you?
(If it is I can certainly understand...everyone likes to find that perfect stone for them!)

I am doing a bit too much of that for myself at the moment....

Check out James Allen. They have a great collection of marquise, and you can visually see the thumbnails for the marquise shapes. Marquises are hard to buy without a picture, at least for me.

Bulenile lists 2460 marquise, priced from $375 for a 0.32 ct D SI1 to $994,485 for a 9.13 ct D IF.

Sure, they are probably ALL virtual inventory so none of them reside in a Bluenile vault.
None of them have pictures, ASETs or Idealscopes.
All of them are in only two cut categories called "Good" or "Very Good" ... whatever THAT means.

But for a general idea what a given budget may buy I love Bluenile's large "inventory", if just for browsing.

No idea of the budget yet. Depends on the property settlement with the psychopath I was married to. This is all Fantasy League shopping until that's finished.

Gulp....
This begs the questions - who drops $1mm on a stone on Bluenile?? Why?? And, how do you have it shipped? Fedex?? :o

There are high-security shippers like Brinks or MalcaAmit.
You can either have a armed truck pull up to your front door, or travel to a city where the shipper has an office.
