I am helping my brother pick a stone for his bride to be.

He currently has a preloved Tacori setting in Platinum that will hold a round stone - he was told between 1ct - 1.25ct.

Are GOG & IDJ willing to set one of their stones in set not purchased from them? Is there another vendor I should be looking into?

His budget is around $5k. I would love to find an Ideal Cut stone. He is looking for "BLING" for this Tacori set.
I see Gypsy suggested a few to someone else in the past few days but they are in the $6k range. Gypsy - You sure know how to pick a rock!!!

Is it possible to find a 1ct near his budget?

Thank you in advance for your help.

5k and one carat in an ideal cut is not going to happen without significant compromises. I'll look for you but you probably looking at either a 90 point stone. Or a J Si1 or Si2.

Most of the jewelers we work with will set a stone you purchase from them into any setting of your choice.

IDJ and Wink at High Perfomance diamonds are the two I'd be talking to.

Ask for eyeclean, good idealscope (ideal light return) and down to J in color and eyeclean clarity.

Here's a nice one:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-285752 Put on hold immediately. And ask for the gemologist to examine it. And ask for an idealscope image.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.96-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-248745 Same. This one has riskier numbers (2.4 HCA), but as long as it's under 2.5 there is a chance it will have a great idealscope image.

The first one is my favorite though. So if that one works out, it's your best bet for his budget.

Thank you Gypsy. I am holding the first 2.

How likely is it that I won't see the inclusions in the center of each stone like I can in the video? This makes me want to up his budget. :naughty:

The budget has increased. The diamonds from James Allen have been released.

Can you tell me what you think of this GIA Cert# 1169727817 HCA score is 1.3.

can you post a link?

Do you have a suggestion for a different diamond(s) in the $6k range?

Well. You are talking about something the size of an eraser on the end of a pencil. If it's white or clear or grey very unlikely. If it's black you would have to ask the gemologist. Some are, some aren't depending on location and actual size.

Don't up the budget. It was set that way for a reason. Diamonds are luxury items. No reason to go in debt or compromise finances.

The increase in budget was not a problem. We are both very clarity sensitive.

Gypsy what do you think of the GIA 1.0 I posted. "crown angel too big" How bad is this stone? Should it not be considered at all?

I have no issue with it at all. I think the other angles balance with it. You REALLY do no need VS1 though. I mean eyeclean VS2 is REALLY going to be fine. It's a waste of money.

Okay, I will look for other options tomorrow. Thank you.

Its really difficult to something around 1ct within the price range of $5K. Even if you do manage to find it then it wouldn't be an ideal cut. Also the clarity would be compromised. So I'd recommend your brother to spend a few more dollars to get something worthy of your money.
