My husband and I will be traveling to Scottsdale and Las Vegas this December. The purpose of the trip is my husband''s company X-mas party in Scottsdale but I have never been to Vegas and will be turning 30 this year...so now we are renting a car and driving from Scottsdale. I am super excited, and want to do as much as we can in the 3 days/2 nights we are out there. I need some suggestions please...I am torn between staying at The Wynn or The Venetian. My husband has left these choices up to me because he has been 10x''s and has no preference. I have read a million reviews on tripadvisor.com but I still can''t make up my mind:)
Also, we are big foodies..Any personal recommendations? I would love to hear any input you have, positive or negative. Shows? Which are the best?

I need help ladies!

Thanks!

I''ve stayed at the Venetian in extremely expensive suites and was not impressed. Its supposed to be one of the top 5 hotels in the world but there are scuff marks on the wall? I''ve never stayed AT the Wynn but my sister and I ate dinner in one of the restaurants and Steve Wynn was sitting next to us. That was fun!

Where are you staying in Scottsdale? I''m in Phoenix.

I loved Blue Man Group and any Cirque shows. Favorite was definitely Zumanity. We''re going to see The Lion King in January.

What dates are you going? They close a lot of shows down in December because so few people are there.

Food...whats your poison? Any favorite types of food?

I loved David Burke for dessert, but was underwhelmed by the food a little bit.
Sensi at Bellagio was really good.
I want to go to Craftsteak and RM Seafood when we''re there.
Love Postrio, ESPNZone, BLT Burger, the Vietnamese restaurant in TI...
I''d love to go to Aquavit sometime...as well as pretty much all of the restaurants in Mandalay Bay. MIX, Aureole, Fleur de Lys, etc.

Big foodies? Hmm, Joel Rubuchon has the only Michelin 3 star in Vegas (at the MGM). Haven''t been yet, but after hearing him referred to as the "Chef of the Century" about a dozen times on an episode of Top Chef/LV this year, my FI has going there the next time we''re in Vegas on the brain!http://www.mgmgrand.com/restaurants/joel-robuchon-french-restaurant.aspx

Aureole at Mandalay is solid, and watching the wine angels fly is quite entertaining. If you go, save room for dessert-- we had the assortment, and there wasn''t a bum one in the lot.

You might also want to check out Mix at the top of THEhotel. I''ve only done pre-dinner at the lounge (yummie mac and cheese!), but it''s hard to imagine Alain Ducasse making a misstep. But beyond that, and in addition to the best mixed drinks in Vegas, the view is to die for. http://www.mandalaybay.com/thehotel/mix.aspx

I''ve never actually stayed at either, but I preferred the Venetian when I went there this summer. The Grand Canal shops are awesome, the interior is beautiful, and they''re the only hotel on the strip that has free Wi-Fi.

y2kitty, we are staying at The Firesky Resort. The location is ideal for the X-mas party. Have you heard of it? The last time I was in Scottsdale (2 years ago) we stayed at The Four Seasons Troon. It was nice but soooo far away from anything. It really just was not convenient.

My husband does not leave home without The Michelin Guide so I guess we can''t go wrong but I just wanted personal experiences...He has already been to Daniel Boulud and Craftsteak. So I don''t think we will repeat. Is Fleur de Lys located in Paris?

I live in Orlando so I have seen Blue Man Group here as well as La Nouba. Zumanity is showing when we are there, I think I am 99% sold on booking that show.

Thanks ladies!
Any suggestions on great places for cocktails? We really aren''t the clubbing type any longer but I love a great lounge/bar.

I''ve stayed at The Venetian and was not impressed. The Wynn is newer and the rooms are huge!!!!!!
Paris has several great restaurants. If you''re into meat, try the Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay.

I was just there last week! I highly recommend it. The food was EXCELLENT!

I highly recommend to watch "Le Reve" at Wynn.. I have watched to Zumanity and Ka, none of them can compare to Le Reve.. Plus, you may apply hotel credit from Wynn towards the show if you do decide to stay there...

No, I'm right here on Pricescope!

J/K, couldn't resist. FDL is at Mandalay Bay, and in case it's an issue it's closed on both Mondays and Tuesdays.

Since you are there for only 2 nights - I would book a room at The Wynn and just stay there the whole time (maybe take a stroll down to Caesar''s). Traffic is terrible on the strip and the Wynn has all you need (Venetian is next door - great shopping and I believe Jersey Boys is playing there).

I second the recommendation to see La Reve (and Jersey Boys if you want to take in a second show). Everything about the Wynn is fab - it is my favorite casino and all the restaurants are wonderful (last year I had Thanksgiving dinner next to Steve Wynn and Tony Bennett). Tryst (the nightclub) is pretty swank.

We love Prime steakhouse at the Bellagio! It's right next to the fountains so if you go at dusk/after dark you'll get to see them all lit up. It's neat to watch them while eating. Ask for a window seat, or at least something near the windows. They also have a small patio that you can go out on and watch the fountains and have a few drinks. We always do these two things....it's a tradition now. You want to see a Cirque show. We've seen KA, O, and Mystere...which was the best one. We stayed at the Venetian in 2002 (or was it 2003, I can't remember) and it was very nice. I haven't stayed at the Wynn yet, but have heard good things.

One thing you'll want to do one evening (after 6pm) is go downtown to Fremont Street. That's where the waving neon cowboy is (although he doesn't wave anymore). They have a structure over the length of the street which they have lightshows several times a night. Very cool. This area is considered "old Las Vegas".
