Hello all :)

I have found something that is really appealing to my eyes.... The stone was pre-owned but the was sent to GIA
to get certified 5 months ago. I know most people want a colorless diamond, bujt for me, i like them warm and with
color and have been desperately trying to find something in the end of the spectrum like a U-V to Z colored one.
the thing that makes it even harder is that I was trying to get something in the 5CT + and with good clarity....

I came upon this beauty:

GIA report: December 24, 2008 ( woah a day before Xmas! )
Pear modified brilliant
14.77 X 8.72 X 5.69 ( 1.69 ratio - yummy )
Carat Weight: 5.13 CT
Color: W to X Range
clarity: VVS2
Total depth: 65.3%
Table Size: 56%
girdle: slightly thick to Thick, faceted
Culet: none
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
fluorescence: Strong Blue
Key to Symbols: feather, Extra Facet

i have a question when it comes to the extra facet and the fluorescence... What does the Fluor. do to the loveliness of the yellow of the stone?
i assume that perhaps an extra facet is not the greatest, but could perhaps enhance the overall look of the stone? would it make it less desirable.
not that i really care about it since I find it totally beautiful and there is no bow-tie in the diamond.

what would be a ballpark figure on the price of this diamond given the specs ? I would be paying in the low $20,000

Thank you all... i''ll post pictures tonight... I am at work right now, and hummm should be working lol...

looking forward to your answers!

Wow, talk about an amazing sounding stone. I cannot wait to see photos of it!

(Sorry, I have no idea about price. . .)

Extra facet shouldn't be a problem, the fluorescence might whiten it slightly in some lights but whether it has much of an impact on the colour it isn't really possible to say, but I would imagine at W/X colour grade there will be plenty of tint. Get an independant appraiser to check it out during the return period.

I LOVE warm stones! The closest I''ve seen to this is a 5.38 carat U-V I1 GIA graded cushion for around 25K. At VVS2 clarity grade, I''m pretty certain your 5.13 ct pear will cost significantly more.

I''d love to see a pic of this pear though! Seems scrumptious!

Oh, I cant wait to see some pics also! I love pears!

alright :) here are some pics... it is in a setting that i really do NOT like, but I do like the shield its sitting in though. Most likely, I'll have a delicate & simple halo made for it... ... so many possibilities...

You will likely find that the blue color of the fluorescence is preventing this diamond from getting a fancy yellow color grade from GIA. When a non-fluorescent diamond is W/X color it generally can be engineered to become a fancy yellow, but all the cutting expertise in the world cannot defeat blue fluorescence which probably makes the diamond look less colored in lighting rich with UV. Now, you may find it a wonderful stone and the price may be excellent because the market for such a rock is far more limited than the common stone people tend to buy. Getting reliable price assistance is beyond the scope of what most people here can do for you. It is an unusual color, an unusual size and off the normal radar of value for most participants here. Appraisers who do know how to research the value of these things ethically can't comment on value on a stone they have not personally examined. It is unprofessional guesswork for an expert to do it and someone who is not a professional should avoid advising on values, too. Shop and research on your own or hire someone who you feel you can rely upon. These are the two best methods.

David,
Thank you for your post... I was not really asking for a definite price, just a ball park figure... all that it matters to me is that the price I am paying is
"ok" for me in comparison to what stones like this one go for, which is hard to find on the net really. since I wanted a yellow color in a pear diamond,
what mattered to me most was the clarity and the overall shape/ratio of the stone. The color to me is beautiful and the shape/ratio
magnificient to my eyes, and that is what really count.

Fortunately, i have a good return policy, but i believe that I have found the pear shape, color and ratio i have been waiting for a loooooooong time.

Its a gorgeous pear and the shape I love also - very very nice!!

I love it. And the setting.

I would send it to Neil or Dave for appraisal. And I would make the sale contingent on their appraisal. You will have to pay for the shipping both ways and the appraisal, but to me it''s worth it.

Personally I think it looks beautiful.
