How do I go about finding the value of a diamond? I have a 2.2 carat Ashoka that I may want to sell I can find comps for most other kinds of stone but nothing for this? Thank you Pricescopers for all your time!!!

It is tough to get price comps for a branded stone without going to a retailer who sells that brand. I imagine that Ashoka might be priced at high retail like Hearts on Fire is, but I don't know that for sure. You might look at Good Old Gold's August Vintage Cushions as a similar specialty cut cushion with ideal light performance. What is the color and clarity of your stone?

You're going to need to get an appraiser involved.

It is a GIA inscribed 2.3 carat I SI1......actually very beautiful!

There is more than one way to define value.

If you are looking to insure your stone in case it is stolen or damaged, you will probably have to go to the maker. Hence you need to insure it for whatever the maker charges.

If you are looking to sell it, most buyers won't care about the branding. You will get a range of prices depending on where you sell and how much of a hurry you are in. If you are looking at the online vendors with small markups a stone might resell for between 10%-70% of retail. The lower price would be a pawnbroker who takes anything; the higher price would be a private sale to an individual.

You can get a rough idea by looking at cushion cuts. But the cushion cut prices will vary a lot depending on the quality of the cuts and the style of the cuts. You can assume the cut is high quality, but it's not clear whether the style is more or less popular compared to other cushions. Anyhow, start with cushion cuts, find some comparables, and expect 10% to 70% of that, depending on venue. It's very crude but at least it's a start.

Here's a 2 ct I VS2 at $21,310:

Yours is larger but SI1, so it gives you a rough idea of the price of another specialty cut. However, Ashoka could be higher since Good Old Gold has pretty good prices since they sell in their store and online. I do think you need to get pricing from an Ashoka dealer since those looking for that cut are going to compare your asking price with current retail.

Thank you all so much for your time!
